Referring now to the drawings, I have shown a motor 1 in the form-of an electroinagncti. A rcciproca'ting lever 2 is supported at the top of a standard 3 by means of an arbor 5, which passes through flanges like that shown at. 4. Secured to the base 3 are the laterally extending arms ti and 7, the former liol'dinga screw 8 and the latter the screws 9 and 10. 8 and 9 are adapted to regulate the amount of reci 'irocating motion of the lever. and it) to increase or decrease the tension of a coil spring 11 connected with the lever. A flat spring 12, a little longer than "the two screws are apart that are used to regulate the amount of reciprocating motion of the lever, is fastened at its center, and directly bet-ween the two flanges -l|pportiug tholcvcr, to the under side of said lever, so that the ends are in front of the points of the regulating screws.
On one end of the reciprocating lever, and directly in front of the elcctro-magnet poles, a piece of metal 13 is fastened, and is adapted to be attracted by said magnet. pawl or ratchet: 14 is on the other end of the reciprocating lever, and is adapted to fall into the notches 21 formed by the teeth on a ratchet wheel, the same being pressed against the wheel by a flat oblon 1 spring 15, having one end fastened to the lever and'the' other pressing against the back of the ratchet, also another flat. spring of about the same shape is fastened on the front side-of the -pawl at 16, and extends almost to the catch, and which is adapted to come in contact with the teeth of the wheel, and has its tension varied by a screw 17 extending through from the back of the pawl and forcing it away from Q the ratchet, the spring 16 and the catch 18 being insulated from that part of the pawl one next to it which slides on the next tooth it is to engage.

to spring 16 on ratchet 17, and from spring through one of the electric circuits on the wheel to the other ratchet 27, then back to the source of supply. On top of said ratchet is a Substantially V shaped spring 28, which has one leg fastened to the end of the ratchet, and is positioned so that the other leg comes in contact with the tooth in advance of the catch 29, and serves as an electrical conductor and a cushion'for the ratchet to fall on as it, drops over the point of the teeth, and at the base 32 of said ratchet is an oblong spring 30 for holding the ratchet against the teeth on-the wheel.
When the circuit is complete through the motor as described above, the end of the reciprocating lever is drawn toward the magnets, causing ratehet 14 to be moved in the opposite direction, and turn the wheel 19, until the circuit is broken by ratchet 27 falling onto another tooth. Ratchet 14 is now drawn back one tooth, and the circuit is again complete through the other ring, causing the same action to take place as before, and the motor will continue to act in like manneras long as the electric current is turned on. The coils 1, ratchet 27, bearings 3 and 26 are all mounted on a base 33 so that they are electrically insulated from the other of said rings and the remaining teeth, an actuating pawl on one side of said ratchet, a second pawl on the opposite side of said ratchet, said pawls being normally in electric connection with each other through the medium of certain of said conducting second conducting pawl on the op-- posite side of said ratchet wheel arranged teeth and one of said conducting rings, means for moving the actuating pawl, the movement of the second named pawl from its tooth to the adjacent tooth serving to break the circuit between the two pawls.
In an electric motor, a ratchet wheel comprising an insulating body, conducting teeth disposed around the periphery of said body, a' pair of conducting rings, electrical connections between alternate teeth and one of said rings, electrical connections between the other of said rings and the remaining teeth, an actuating pawl on one side of said ratchet, said actuating pawl being provided with an adjustable conducting spring arrangedato engage said teeth, a second pawl on the-opposite side of said ratchet, said second pawl being provided with a conducting spring arranged to engage the teeth of said ratchet, said pawls being nori'nally in electrical connection with each other through the medium of certain of said conducting teeth and one of said conducting rings,
means for moving the actuating pawl, said means comp 'ising a pivoted lever having an armature a one end and a magnet for said armature, a source of current for said magnet, the movement of the second named pawl from its tooth to the adjacent tooth serving to'break the circuit between the two pawls.
