. I, JOHN BENTLEY FIELD, of Detroit, in thecouuty of Kayne and ,State ot' Michigan, haveinvented certainnew and useful` Improvements in thev Construction of Sl1utter`bar Fastening's, of' which theibllowi'ng is a specification. i i 1 1 My invention relates to the vcombination of a capplatc to embrace and coverthe pivot end of the hookbar of a shutterastener with said bar and with a fastening plate `on the under side thereof, said cap-platebeing secured upon the bar and fastening-plateby. means of a rivet projecting centrally from, or a screw passing centrally through said cap-plate, and extending through a longitudinal slot in thel hook, to be scoured in' the. fastexling-plate-haclr` of the same by screwing there-,I into, or by being riveted or'upset on. its under side, or-
7 fastened thereby a nut. l
The object of my said invention is to aEl'ord'grea-ter support to the pivotedend ofthe hook-bar,andthusv strengthen it against `being bent or elongated when the shutter is in any manner forced, and at the same time neatly cover and conceal the same and makeia amore perfect iinish'forfthe complete article.
i `Figure 1 is a front elevation ot' one form of my improvcd `shutter-bar fasteningcomplete Figure 2 a vert-ical section in the line .r .1: otfig. 1; and
Figure 3, a rear or `under view of the hook-barand vits front cap-plate, `the under fastening-plate beingremoved to disclose the end of the hook-bar.
Figure 4 is a view" of the` rear faceof a fasteningplate with a hook pivoted thereto, illustrating a modification in the arrangement and combination of the pivot-pin, the outer cap-plate of fig. 1 being 'dispensed with. i
A is the bar of the fastener, abeing the hook formed The opposite end is provided with a longitudinal slot, B, tig. 3, to receive the pivot-pn upon which the bar turns. I I
G, igs. l and 2,fis an outer cap-plate made to cover and partially inclose the pivoted end of the har,V as
m shown in tig. 2, and conceal the slot therein. I am aware that a .compensating devlcefor scouring shutters, dsc., consisting of acolnpensating spring, combined with a slotted hook-bar, hasheretoibre-becn usedand described, and that a hooh-bar slotted as herein'described, to allow a compensating movement thereof, is not new; hence I do not .claim said-device broadly; but v I clailn as my invention- A `hook-bar, provided with an extended slot, when arranged to embrace and lturn upon a pivot, which, projecting cent-rally from an outer covering or capplate, serves to connect and pivot said cap-plate to the under fastening or bed-plate, by which the device is secured to the shutter, all substantially as and for the purpose herein set forth.
` .,T. BENTLEY FIELD.
