OIL AND STEAM BURNER.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOSIAH CoRvEN RODGERS, citizen of the United States, residing at Junction City, in the county of Gear-y and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Oil and Steam Burners; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention is a burner for consuming a fuel consisting of vapor and steam, and the object of the same is to construct a burner of this character in such way that water and oil admitted thereto will be converted into steam and vapor, and mixed, and then ejected over the pan shaped body of the burner itself, so that the burning of this mixture generates the steam and vapor and keeps up a constant supply thereof. This object is carried out by constructing the burner in the manner hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and as shown in the drawings wherein- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the pan or burner proper, and Figs. 2 and 3 are respectively a plan and a side view showing how this pan or burner is connected with theinlet pipe.
The burner forming the subject matter of the present invention includes a flat pan 10 about an inch thick and thirty inches long, and a surrounding rim 11 extending from the inner or flat end 12 of the pan, along its edge, around its rounded end 13, and along its other edge. The pan and its rim are by pref erence cast entirely of one piece of metal, the rim inclosing a pipe 16 which by preference is made of asingle piece so that there will be no elbows or oints within the casting. I have found by experience that a generator pipe made of parallel arms connected by av loop as shown, will successfully resist the excessive heat generated so that this part of the device will not burn out.
In Figs. 2 and 3 of the drawings which show my preferred manner of connecting up this pan for use in an ordinary range or other structure, water is admitted through Specification of Letters Patent.

an inlet pipe 6 and valve 7 to one endof the generator pipe 16, in which it passes around within the rim 11 of the pan and wherein the water is converted into steam; and the other end of this pipe 16 is connected as at 8 with one arm of the head 21 of a T-shaped coupling whose other arm 25 forms a nozzle and is directed along over the center of said pan 10. Oil is admitted through an inlet pipe 4 and valve 5, and flows thence into the inner end of a vaporizer pipe 17 which stands above and is looped around over the rim 11 of the pan in a manner well shown in the drawings. During its passage through this pipe the oil is converted into vapor, and the other end of the pipe is connected through the pipe 20 with the stem of the T-coupling 21 as shown. It follows from this arrangement that water admitted through the pipe 6 and valve7 and oil admitted through the pipe 1 and valve 5 both flow around the panone within the generator pipe 16 where it is converted into steam, and the other through the looped pipe 17 where it is converted into vaporand these fluids are mixed within the T- coupling and ejected through the nozzle 25 down and along the center of the pan 10, where they burn with an intense heat which not only creates steam and vapor out of the inflowing liquids but gives off thisheat in the stove or range or other device within which the burner is located. The latter may be attached to an ordinary furnace or range by merely laying it upon the grate, or removing the latter and supporting the pan upon the grate support, proper connections being made with the oil and water pipes in a manner which is not necessary to illustrate and describe. It will possibly be desirable to provide for cleaning and flushing out the pipes at times so as to prevent them from becoming clogged or fouled.
