of Manitoba, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Securing Rails to Ties, ot which the following is the specication.

My invention relates to a device Vfor curing trackrailstoties, and the object of the invention is to provide an inexpensive, durable and eiipicient `device ot this class which can be quickly applied and will hold the rail tightly in position, the article plied with a hooked end, a dog pivotallybeingparticula'rly adapted tor use where cement, metallic, or such like ties are used.

I/Vith the above objectin view the invention consists essentially 1n a base plate supsecured to the base plate and opposing the hooked end thereof, releasable inea'ns t'or holding the dog in a set position, and means for fastening the plate to the tie or sleeper carrying the saine, the parts being arranged and constructed as hereinafter more particularly described. f

The dog is located directly opposite the hooked "end of the base plate so that when it is swung over toward the end 5 it will catch the adjoining side of the'base of the rail. IIhe dog is supplied with a flat-tened back tace which engages with the ,flattened enlarged end 11 of a retaining member 1l having the body portion thereof countersunk in the tace of the plate and the enlarged end passing into the cavity 8 to the rear et the dog. A removable bolt 12 holds'the retaining member to the base plate.

According to the above construction it will be seen'that the rails can be quickly fastened to the ties,`it being only necessary to bolt the base plate to the tie and remove the retaining member so as to allow the dog to swing back and admit the base of the rail beneath the hooked end Upon this being accomplished the dog is swung over against the base of the rail and is held in this position by the retaining piece which is afterward put in place aird fastened by the bolt I2.

In 3 and 4 of the Idiiwing I have shown a modified means for holding the base plate to the sleeper. The tianges 6 are dispensed with and the base plate is provvided with a wedge-shaped projecting piece 1+i which dove-tails into a cross slot l5 supplied in the sleeper.
