To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, HIRAM E. GIDEoNs, a citizenof the United States, residing at Bay Minette; in the county of Baldwin, State of Alabama, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bolt- Heading Tools; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to' bolt heading tools.
The object of the invention resides in the provisionof a tool of the characternamed which may be utilized with ease and facility in heading bolts of different types and is especially useful in those localities where larger bolt heading machinery is -,not accessible and where the time in which the heading of the bolt must be completed is limited. A further object of the invention resides in the provision of a tool of the character named which will be simple in construction,
durable, effective in reaching the end for which it.is designed, and which may also serve the purpose of a bending tool through the aid of which rods or other stock may be easily bent at the proper angle. With the above and other objects in view, the invention consits in the details of construction and'inthe arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed'out in the appended claim. The tool proper comprises a base 10 provided with a depending squared stem 11 adapted to removably seat in the squared opening 12 of the anvil'A so as to constitute a detachable connection between the tool and the anvil. Formed at one end of the base 10 is an extension 15 the free end of which'is forked to produce spaced ears 16 and 17 for a purpose that will presently appear. The base 10 and the various parts rigidlyconnected therewith constitute the-fixed jaw of the tool as will hereinafter appear.
.The movable jaw of the tool is indicated at 18 and. has one end extended to form an operating handle '19, while the other end thereof is extended and reduced to form a tongue 20 disposed between the ears 16 and 17 and pivotally connected to the latter by means of a pivot pin 21 whereby the movable jaw may be swung through the -instrumentality of the handle 19 toward and away from the fixed jaw when desired. The edge of the movable jaw 18 adjacent the fixed jaw 01' base 10 is provided with a recess 22 which is disposed in opposition to and mates with the recess 13 in 'the fixed jaw when said movable jaw is moved into engagement with the fixed jaw. This recess 22 has disposed therein a rib '23 which rises from the rear wall of said recess and extends from end to endthereof in a manner corresponding to the rib 14: in. the recess-l3. v v
