To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, RICHARD KALLMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Davenport, in the county of Scott and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Handling Baking-Pans, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

This invention relates to pan lifters and the principal object of the same is to im prove and simplify the construction of devices of this character and provide, as a new article of manufacture, a pan lifter formed entirely from wire.

With the above and other objects in view the invent-ion consists in general of certain novel constructions, arrangements and combinations of parts as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically claimed.

In the accompanying drawings like characters of reference indicate like parts in the several views, and :Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the manner of using the device. Fig. 2 is a partial detail showing the manner in which one of the members engages beneath the edge of a pan.

This invention consists of two parts, one whereof is adjustably mounted upon the other to accommodate different sized pans, and the like. The first of these parts consists of a single length of wire bent intermediate its ends to form a loop 10. The wire is then twisted together to form what may be termed the core of the handle as indicated at 11 and this twisting is carried down to a point 12 where the wires diverge into branches 13. Each of these branches is bent downwardly as at 14 and again upwardly as at 15, the bight portion 16 thus formed being bent under to constitute agripping claw. From the upper end of each portion 15 the wire is led back as at 17, these parts being substantially p aralled and is repeatedly bent into a series of loops 18 spaced along the portion 17 and opposite each other. From the last loop 18 the wire is bent directly in toward the handle as indicated at- Specification of Letters Patent.

19 and the two ends are then twisted around the core 11 so that they lie in the grooves of the twist of said core as indicated at 20, terminating adjacent the loop 10 as at 21. The other member consists of a single length of wire bent to form an arcuate portion 22 intermediate its ends. From this arcuate portion lateral portions extend as at 23 which terminate in upwardly extending portions 24. The wire ends are then led parallel to each other as at 25 and inturned as at 26, the portions 26 being held in a suitable pair of the loops 18 as can readily be seen by reference to Fig. 1.

The wire used in the construction of this invention is resilient and by reason of this the arms 25 may be forced apart so that the ends 26 may be inserted in any pair of the loops at will, thus making the device adjustable to any sized pan, as can readily be understood from an inspection of Fig. 1.

In using the device the handle is grasped in such manner that the portion 22 hangs down. It is then placed in the oven so that 22 catches in one.edge of the pan and the ends 16 are pushed forward until they engage over the other edge of the pan. By lifting the handle the end 16 and portion 22 will be drawn toward each other until the pan is firmly grasped by the device. It then may be lifted from the stove without any danger of burning the hands. There has thus been provided a simple and eflicient device of the kind described and for the purpose specified.
