Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD C. DAMRow, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Fond du Lac, in the county of Fond du Lac and State of Wisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Cheese-Hoops, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in cheese hoops and has particular application to hoops of this character which are used in conjunction with cheese presses so as to facilitate the shaping and packing of the cheese in the pressing operation.
Heretofore, in cheese hoop construction, a separable annulus or bearing member has been used in order to reinforce the hoop and at the same time form a bearing so that the hoop may be at all times in axial alinement with the press plunger in order to prevent binding or unequal pressure upon,the different parts of the plunger or follower. This independent construction of the annulus or ring member of the hoop permits more or less play between the ring member and the hoop, thus rendering the hoop hard to clean and consequently resulting in an unsanitary construction.
Therefore, in carrying out the present invention, it is my purpose to provide a cheese hoop wherein the annulus or ring member shall be formed integral with the hoop so as to reinforce the same and at the same time form a bearing for the hoop in the pressing operation, the hoop being preferably composed of sections and the ring member integral with one of the sections and embracing an adjacent section thus rein forcing the hoop and forming a bearing for the same, and also presenting a hoop which may be thoroughly cleaned and kept in a sanitary condition.
lVith the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter set forth in and falling within the scope of the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification and wherein has been shown the preferred form of the invention; Figure 1 is a detail perspective view of a cheese hoop constructed in accordance with the present invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse sectional view of the same, and Fig. 3 is a detail broken perspective view of the same.
Similar reference characters designate like parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the accompanying drawing in detail, the hoop in the present instance is composed of three sections 1, 2 and 3. The section 3 forms the bottom of the hoop and is perforated as usual to facilitate the discharge of the whey in the pressing of the cheese as will be readily understood. This bottom section 3 is provided with an annular right angular scalloped wall 4 diverging outwardly from the bottom of the section and designed to embrace the lower edge of the section 2, the sections 2 and 3 being riveted or otherwise suitably fastened. The sect-ion 2 is also of a tapered outline and has its lower edge in engagement with the bottom wall of the section 3 so as to present, interiorly of the hoop, an unbroken tapering wall. The upper or free end of the sect-ion 2 is bent inwardly of the hoop to provide a relatively vertical wall 5 and riveted or otherwise suitably secured to this wall 5 is the section 1 having its side walls in a vertical plane. Abutting the upper edge of the wall 5 at its juncture with the section 1 is the usual bandager 6 designed to cooperate with the vertical wall 5 of the section 2 to give the circumferential wall of the cheese an unbroken vertical surface under the act-ion of the plunger or follower of the press, the upper edge of the wall 5 forming a stop whereby excess inward movement of the bandager is obviated.
To insure a bearing for the hoop in the pressing operation in order to prevent an unequal pressure upon various parts of the plunger or bandager of the press and to reinforce the hoop, I make use of an annulus or ring member 7 which is integral with the lower overlapping portion of the section 1 and is arranged immediately below its juncture with the wall 5, this annulus or ring member embracing an adj acent section of the hoop, which section in this instance is the section 2. By virtue of this construction it will be seen that independent movement of the annulus with respect to the sections of the hoop is absolutely prevented thereby rendering an eflicient and reliable bearing for the hoop in the pressing operation and at the same time providing a bearing which may be at all times kept in a sanitary condition and readily and easily cleaned when such is necessary or desired. As before stated, those annuli or ring members have been separate from the sections of the hoop, consequently dirt or other foreign matter accumulates between the ring member and its respective hoop section and has been responsible for an unsanitary keeping of the hoop.
In the present embodiment of the invention, the annulus or ring member 7 is shown to be of segmental outline cross sectionally and in this connection I desire to have it understood that the cross sectional shape of the annulus is immaterial in carrying out this invention and it is to be understood that I am not limited to the specific form of ring member herein shown and described.
I claim:
1. The combination of a cheese hoop com prising a plurality of sections, and a ring a member integral with one of said sections and embracing an adjacent section.
2. The combination of a cheese hoop comprising a plurality of sections, and a ring member integral with one of said sections at its lower longitudinal edge and embracing an adjacent section.
3. The combination of a cheese hoop comprising a plurality of sections, and a ring member integral with one of said sections at its lower end and below its juncture with an adjacent section, said ring member embracing the adjacent section.
