UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN ERIXON, 0F ALED, SWEDEN, ASSIGNOR TO GUSTAF THEODOR SCHELE, 0F HALMSTAD, SWEDEN.
MACHINE FOR MAKING WOOD SHAVINGS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOHN ERIXON, manufacturer, a subject of the King of Sweden,
,stance by means of rollers, between which the block is inserted, so that the end surface of the block abuts against the rollers. In machines of this kind hitherto constructed a rotating body was provided with several tools, which work successively into one or more blocks. With these machines, however, the resulting product has not been as uniform as required, because it has been impossible to adjust the tools precisely, so that the scorers of a subsequent tool exactly fit into the scores made by the scorers of the preceding tool.
One object with the present invention is to provide a machine, by which an absolutely uniform product is obtained.
Further in machines of this kind it is very difficult, especially if the machine is double-acting, that is to say provided with two rotating wheels or bodies for carrying the tools, to take out the resulting product from the machine, as said product gets entangled on the rotating wheel and there is no space ,between the wheels for receiving effective outfeed-mechanisms.
My present invention further has for its object to overcome this disadvantage. The invention is substantially characterized thereby that a part of the wheel is formed as a fan, which produces a sufficient draft to force the product from the wheel. In combination with this device means are provided to guide in a certain path the product thrown out from the wheel.
An embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing.
Figure 1 is a side view and Fig. 2 a front view of the machine.
1 indicates two rotating bodies, which are constructed as wheels and secured to a horizontal shaft 2 so as to rotate in a vertical plane. The tool consisting-of the scorers 3 and the cutting steel 4 mounted behind the scorers is secured into a special frame or box, which in turn is attached to the wheel by screw bolts or the like. Adjacent to each of the wheels. there is arranged a disk or frame 5 provided with openings 6, into which the wood blocks are inserted between rollers 7, which are mounted on the disk, hold the blocks and, when rotating, press them against the tool. As shown on the drawing the disk is provided with four openings and a corresponding number of sets of rollers, so that a plurality of blocks are worked successively by the same tool as the wheel rotates. The different sets of rollers are coupled together in suitable manner so as to run with the same speed.
The part of the wheel carrying the tool consists of a ring, which by means of arms 9 is connected with a hub on the shaft 2. According to the present invention these arms 9 are formed as fan wings causing a strong air draft by the rotation of the wheel, whereby the shavings or the like are forced from the wheel and prevented from being entangled therewith. Thus it is attained, even when the production is great, that the product is forced promptly from the revolving wheel and the tool. In order to cause the product to pass from the machine Patented July 2, 1912.-
in a certain path thewheels are surrounded by a casing 10 provided with an outlet passage 11.
Instead of the wheel itself being formed as a fan a separate fan can be connected with the wheel or the shaft or be arranged otherwise so as to blow out the product from the machine.
Claim:
In a machine for making wood shavings, or the like, a frame having a plurality of openings therein, sets of shafts arranged across the openings and mounted on the frame, serrated work-holding members carried on the shafts, a rotating body provided with a central recess, shafts carried by the frame and operating in the recess in the body, the last mentioned shafts being operatively connected with the first mentioned shafts for rotating the work-holding members, a cutter carried by the rotating body,
a plurality of scorers carried by the rotatand outlet means in the casing adjacent the ing body in advance of the cutter, fan Wings base of the latter for removing the shavings. 1o
