and that the coiled sprin- 2O retains the said sleeve and hence the Valve rod in its seated position upon the valve seat 5. lt. will also he noted that rotation of the valve rod Will cause the automatic grinding of the'trustoconical portion 7 upon the seat 5,. and furthermore that all Wear betweenthe valve seat and portion 7 will he taken 'up by the spring Q0 and sleeve 16.
From the foregoing it- Will he apparent that l have provided a device for the purpose stated which will overcome the objections to the gage cocks in presentusage; which will be ot extremely simple and inea; pensive construction; and which Will be entirely practical and efficient from every point. of View.
I claim:
l.' In a gage oook, the combination with a housing and a threaded valve rod, of a threaded sleeve carried loy said rod, a nut termed integral upon one end ot said sleeve, a Washer mounted in said housing forward of the integral nuton the sleeve, and a coiled spring interposed between the 'sleeve and the housing and intermediate the said nut and the rear Wall of the housin'.
2. In a gage coclnthe combination With a housing and a threaded valve rod, of a threaded sleeve carried by said rod, said sleeve consisting of a longitudinally extending portion having a nutormed integral therewith and disposed at right angles thereto7 a Washer carried by the valve rod :ton ward of the integral nut and adapted to abut against said nut7 and a coiled spring entirely surrounding the longitudinally eX- tending portion of the sleeve and intermediate the said nutl and the rear wall of the honi ng.
3. ln a gage cock, the combination With the body portion haring the central passage therethrough7 the 1valve seat,the nipple communicating with and at rightl angles to said valve seat, the interiorly threaded cylindrical housing the uut carried thereby, the parking arranged in said housing at its tor- Ward end, the 'Washer disposed rearwardly of the packing and adapted to'retainsame in place, vthe longitudinally extending externally threaded rotatable valve stein, the interiorly threaded sleeve carried thereby, the integrally formed nut carried by said sl fave at its toiyvardend1 the coiled spring surrounding the said sleeve and stein intermediate 'the rear Wall of the housing and the 'integrally formed nut ot the sleeve., and the hand Wheel at the rear end ort the stem for rotating same and unseating the valve from its seat.
