To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, Amance SrANl-:Y and JosllUA W. Maven, citizensot the United States, residing, respectively, at Piel-mont,

Rockland county, State of New York, and at the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lorgnettes, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact specification. Our invention relates to improvements in jewelry and the same has for its object more articularly to provide an eye glass 1n the orm of a lorgnette, which, when ynot in use, may be suspended from a chain and worn as a medallionor plaque.

Further, said invention has for its object to provide a lorgnette comprising a frame consisting of two similarly shaped lens-rre,- ceiving sections which are so arranged relatively to each other that when the same are brought together they will jointly form a structure of substantially circular outline orl la ue.

The said member 24 is provided at its end 105 with a pivoted link or loop 25 which is adaptedto receive a chain 4or other suitable means for suspendin the article about the neck of the wearer w en the device -is worn e8 a medallion or plaque. The rear ofthe 11o' member 24, adjacent to its point of securement to the frame section 11, is recessed, and in said recessed portion is pivotally secured a detent 26 having a. finger-portion 27 extending through the side of the member 24, and a toe 28 which also projects through said members and is adapted to engage with the recess 23 in the end of the frame seetlon 12. When it is desired to utilize the device asa lorgnette, it merely becomes necessary to release the toe 28 ofthe detent 26 of its engagement with the recess 23 in the frame section 12, whereupon the spring 22 arrangedupon the pivot pin 21 will cause said frame sections to spring apart and assume the position indicated at Fig. 2. When used as a lorgnette, the member 24, together with the attaching or suspending link 25, serve asa handle portion for holding the device. The

portions 14, 15, 16 and 16 of the frame, as' well as the members 20, 20 and 24, may be provided with suitable ,settings to receive gems 31, or be otherwise ornamented so as to harmonize with the sha c and construction of the lorgnette as we as with the material of which it is formed.

Having thus described our invention, what We claim and desire to secuieby Letters Patent, is:

1. A lorgnette comprising a pair of frame sections pivotally connected together and having conforming edges, lenses in said .frame sections, and locking'means for securing sa1d frame sections together with their conformin edges in contact, substantially as specific y 2. 3. A lorgnette comprising two semi-circular frame sections, each having a straight edge, and pivotally connectedtogether at their corresponding ends adjacent to their straight edges, lenses in said frame sections, and a locking device arranged at the opposite end of one of said frame sections adapted to engage with the corresponding end ofA the other of said frame sections foi' securing the same together with 'their straight edges in contact, substantially as specified.

4. A lorgnette comprising two semi-circular frame sections each having a straight edge, lenses in said frame sections, members extending from the corresponding ends of said frame sections and pivotally connected together at their outerends, a member projecting from the o posite end'of one of said frame sections, an a locking device carried by said last-mentioned iframe member adapted to engage with the corresponding vend of the other of said frame sections for securing the same together with their straight edges in contact, substantially as specified.

5. A lorgnette comprising two semi-circular frame sections each having a straight edge, lenses in said. frame sections, members extending from the corresp'ondin ends of said frame sections in line wit the straight edges of said frame sections and pivotally connected together at their outer ends, a member projecting from the opposite end of one of said frame sections, a suspending device secured to the end of said member, and a locking device carried by `said last-mentioned frame member adapted to 'en age with the correspondin end of the ot er of said frame sections or securing the saine together with their straight edges in contact, substantially as specile 6. 7 A lorgnette comprising two semi-circu lar frame sections having conforming straight edges, lenses in said frame sections, members extending from the corresponding ends of said Iframe sections and pivotally united at their outer ends, a member extending from the opposite end of one of said 'frame sections, a detent arranged upon said member, a. spring for maintaining said detcnt normally projected to engage -witli a recess in the corresponding end of the other of said frame sectionsl when the. same are brought together with their conforming edges in contact, and a spring for maintaining said frame sections extended when'said locking device is released, substantially as specified.
