vIn the drawing, the instrument embodying the present invention is illustrated as including in its structure a stem consisting of two tubular sections, one indicated by the numeral l 'and the other hy the numeral 9the sections having threaded connection, ast at 3. A hand-grip 4 is fixed at one end of' the section 1 and is formed with an openingrl 5 which is in alinement with the bore of said section.. The section 2 is provided at the end opposite its threaded end with a ferrule G upon which is fitted a flexible, elastic and expansible capsule receiving cup 7. These cups may be made of different sizes and may be made readily detachable so that one instrument may be employed in administering capsules of any size.
A plunger is employed for ejecting t-he -capsules from the cup and consists of a seetion 8 and a section 9, the two sections having threaded connection as at l0. The plunger rod is slidably fitted through the stem of the instrument and through the opening 5 in the hand-grip 4 and is provided at its end which projects through the said opening 5 with a finger-ring 11. At its opposite end the lunger rod is provided with a head 12 designed to engage the capsule to be ejected from the cup 7. The ferrule 6 is formed with seats 13 preferably diametrically oppositely located and the head of the plunger is formed with lugs 14, similarly located. By providing the seats 13 and lugs 14, when it is designed to disconnect the parts of the instrument, the finger-ring 11 may be gripped and the plunger slid in the direct-ion of the hand-grip L and rotated in one direction or the other until the lugs are in position in the seat. The section 8 of the plunger rod may then be rotated backwardly so as to unthread it from the section 9, the section 9 being held against rotation by reason of the engagement of the lugs in the said seats.
ln using the instrument, the capsule to be administered is disposed small end first in the cup 7, the plunger being drawn to the limit of its movement in the direction of the hand-grip 4.
