To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that We, O'ris ll. Wanner: and GRADY G. Rronnnsozv, citizens of the United States, and residents of Augusta, in the county of Richmond and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Corner- Fastenings for Bedsteads, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to improvements in corner-fastenings for metallic bedsteads of that type in which the corner-post is at tubular formation and the side rail is oi. angleiron.
It has for its object the provision of a devic-e'of simple and cheap construction, but which at the same time will securely hold together the corner-post and side-rail against relative movement after they have been locked together.
The invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts, hereinafter described, pointed out in the appended claim, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
In the accompanying drawings in which similar reference characters designate corresponding parts, Figure L aside elevation of a corner-fastening embodying the invention, the corner-post being cut away in part to show the engaging parts. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same. I
Extending longitudinally through the wall of the tubular corner-post 1 is the narrow elongated slot 2. Extending diametrically across the interior of the corner-post, opposite to the slot, are the pins 3 and 4 spaced apart and one above the other. On the end of the side rail 5 is riveted the shank of the connecting plate (5 provided with a head 7 to enter the slot. 2 of the corner post. The head 7 is sufficiently thick to lit the slot snugly and its vertical width is considerably less than the length of the slot so that the head can be moved up and down in the corner-posh In the central part of the head '7 is the vertical slot 8, and leading from this slot intermediate of its ends through the side edge of the head is the horizontal passage 9. In the upper and lower edges of the head 7 are the recesses 10 and 11 in line with the central slot 8. The slot 8 and the recesses 10 and 11 are of a width to lit the diameter of the pins 3 and 4. ()n connecting plate 6 is the shoulder brace 12 adjacent to the head 7. The inner face of the shoulder brace is concave to fit the convex surface of the corner-post when the head 7 is inserted in theslot 2. On the side edge of the head 7 are the abutments 13 to bear against the interior'wall of tho corner-post when the head is in looking position. 1 i
In looking the side rail to the corner-post the head 7 is inserted in the corner-post through the slot 2 so that the upper pin 3 passes through the passage 9 into the central slot 8, thehead is then pressed downward so that the upper pin moves into the upper part of the slot 8 and the lower pin moves into the lower recess '4. The relative arrangemcntand dimensions of the several parts are such that when the head is in locking position in the corner-post the shoulder brace 19 will bear against the outer wall of the corner-post and the abntments 13 will bear against the interior wall of the cornerpost. In this way-the cm-ner-post and side rail will be securely locked together so that there can he no play between the engaging parts. By having the recesses 10 and 11 in the uppe and lower edges of the head 7 and the horizontal passage 9 leading from the central slot 8 intermediate of the ends of the latter, the side rail can be reversed, so that the side rail can be positioned to present a flat surface along its upper edge as shown in Fig. 1. or so as to present a sharp edge of the angle-iron.
Having thus described our invention. what we claim and desire to secure by Letters Patont is:
In a corner-'l'astener 'lor metallic bedsteads,
a tubular corner-post provided with a longi-' tudinal slot extending through its wall, upper and lower pins extending diametrically across the interior of the cornerpost opposite to the slot therein with said pins spaced apart in vertical alincment, a side rail, :1 connecting plate secured to the end of the side rail ahead on the connecting plate to enter the'slot in the corner-post provided with a central vertical slot having a passage leading "from the slot intermediate of its ends through the edge of the head, said pasvaayical s10; o-yaamtim no rewis'mr 0m si flares in the resence- 0f twa wita 7 0 a p wfiahamni smdpms Wnen the head 1s mnesses.
