SHERMAN FEE AND OTTO T. TRAISER, OF 'QSCEO L A, WISCONSIN.
BAG-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 2 1912..
Application filed March 2, 1912. Serial No. 681,255.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known thatWe, SHERMAN FEE and OT'ro T. TRAJSER, citizens of the United States, residing in Osceola, Polk county, in the State of Wisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Bag-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to improvements in bag holders. Its object is to provide an adjustable device of this class, simple and durable in construction and adapted to hold efticiently. various sizes of bagsin position to be filled.
A further object is -to provide yielding and conveniently operated means for engaging, opening and holding a bag in such position.
In the drawings Figure ,1 is a front elevation of our improved bag holder, showing the retaining arms (in dotted lines) in position to receive a bag, andalso showing said armsextended to hold a bag for filling;
Fig. 2 is a side elevation; Fig. 3 is an en larged sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2; Fig. 4 is an enlarged sectional view taken on the line. 44 of Fig. 2 and Fig. 5 is an enlarged detail view showing in plan the end of a bag retaining arm.
let'erring to said drawings, we have provided a standard l0. which is hollow and square in "cross section. This standard is Sll]')[)(ll't0(l by a base 11, to be attached to a 11001 in any convenientmanner. The support 12 is arranged on the standard and is providedwith a tluunb-eatch [3 having an end l-t adapted to engage in the perforations 15 in said standard for adjusting said support thereon. The arms 16 are fulcrumed'at their lower-ends on the support 12 and areformed with loops 17 and hooks 18 at their upper ends for securing the mouth of a bag on said arms. The sleeve 19 is slidable on' the standard 10 and is connected with the arms 16 by the links 20, said links being pivotally attached at their inner ends to said sleeve and at their outer ends to collars 21 adjustable on said arms. The rod 22 is slidable within the standard 10 and is perforated as indicated by the numeral 23. The sleeve 19 is provided with a thumbcatch 24, an end 25 of which extends through the slot 26 in the standard 10 and is adapted .to engage in the perforations 23 in said rod, thus forming an adjustable connection be tween said sleeve and rod. The spring 27 is arranged on the standard between the supa rod 22 to lower the sleeve 19 against the action. of the spring 27, thus extending the arms 16. The lugBO is arranged on the base 11 to engage said lever, when pressed be 'neath it, and secure said arms in extended positions. 1;
In operation, the support 12 and sleeve 19 are adjusted respectively on the standard 10 and rod 22, so that upon movement of the lever 28 to its lowered position, the arms 16 will open and secure a bag of a particular size in position with its base resting on the floor. \Vhen the desired adjustment has been made the mouth of the bag is applied to the folded arms and the lever 28 is, pressed The foot lewith the foot to open the bag and secure the I same in position to be filled. The arms 16 and hooks 18 yieldto any undue strain on the bag, thus preventing damage thereto.
of the bag may be varled for any adjustment of said arms by moving the/collars 21. upon said arms. \Vhen the bag has been \Vhatwe claim as our invention and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is:
. 1. In a bag holder. at standard provided with a. base, a support. and sleeve slidably mounted upon the standard, a pair of spring arms fulcrumed at their lower ends on said support, each of said arms being provided at its upper end with a loop terminating in a resilient horizontal arm for holding a bag, collars adjustable on said arms. links pivotally connecting said collars with said sleeve,
and means for moving the sleeve upon the standard and for holding said supportand sleeve in position thereon.
2. In a bag holder, a hollow standard provided with a base, a support and sleeve both slidably mounted upon the standard, a pair of arms fulcrumed at their lower ends on said support and formed at their upper ends with arms for holding a bag, links connecting the arms with the sleeve, :1 rod movable within said standard. nieans for adjustably securing the support on the standard, means for adjustably secthinglhe sleeve on said rod, a spring between said support and The tension of these arms against. the mouth lilled the lever 28 is released and the lugs l8 detached from the mouth of the bag.
sleeve for normally separating same to fold said arms, and :1 lever on said rod. for moving said sleeve against the action of said spring (0 thereby extend said arms.
3. In a bag holder, e hollow standard provided with a base, a support and sleeve slidably mounted upon the. standard, arms fulcrnmed upon the support, means on. said arms for holding a bag thereon, links connecting the arms with the sleeve, a spring interposed between said sleeve andsupport, a foot lever on said base and rod, slidahle within said slandord, connecting said sleeve and lever.
. In a hog holder, 51 standard provided with a'base, a support and sleeve both slid ably mounted upon the standard, arms fulcruined on the support and provided with means forholding u hag thereon, collars slidablc on said arms, links each pivotally connected at one end to the sleeve and at she other end (0 one of said collars and means for moving the sleeve upon thestendard and for holding the support and sleeve in posithereon. 5}, m e holder, a hollow standard proa support and sleeve slid- ;pou rile siandord, arms fnl e support, sz id and hooks at their free 1,oso,es2
6. ln a mag holder, a hollow standard provided witha base, a support and sleeve slidably mounted upon the standard, arms fulcrurned upon the support, said arzns being formed with loops and hooks at their free ends, links connecting the arms with the sleeve, a spring interposed between said sleeve and support, a fool; lever on said base. a lug for looking'seid lever in position and a rod, slidable Within said standard, connecting said sleeve and lever.
' i. In a bag holder, a hollow scandard provided With a base; saio standard having a continuous slotv and a vercical series of alined perforations therein, a support and Sleeve both slidelily mounted upon the standard, ernis fuloruined on the support, means on said arms for holding a bag, links connectin the errns With the sleeve, :1 rod movable Within said standard and provided with 11 series of perforations, a thumb catch. on the support for adjustahl'y securing the same on the stenderd, a thumb catch on said sleeve adapted to protrude through said slot and engage in the perfor one of seid rod for adjust-ably securing sold sleeve thereto.
