SOCKET FOR CONNECTING PACKAGE-TIERS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed'Februai-y 17, 1912. Serial No. 678,177.
Patented June 25, 1912.
To all whom, it may concern Be it known that I, BENJAMIN F. INoE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Roanoke, in the county of Roanoke and State of Virginia, have invented new and useful Improvements in Sockets for Connecting Package-Tiers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to sockets designed preferably for package tiers and has for an object to provide companion sockets which may be .readily secured to the terminals of a tying element and relatively arranged whereby they can be securely connected together to hold the tier in operative position around the package.
In the drawing forming a portion of this application and in which like letters of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, Figure l is a perspective view of the binder showing its application'to a package of letters; Fig. 2 is a plan view of the binder. taching means. Fig. 4 is a plan view of theblank from which one of the sockets of the fastening means is formed. 1
The binder comprises preferably a s ring 1 or similar elastic tying element whlch is capable of being wrapped about the pack-1 age as shown in Fig. 1. Means 2 are employed for operatively connecting and securing the opposite terminals of the spring 1 together and as illustrated this means comprises identical socket members 3 which are each formed from a blank A shown in Fig. 3 is. a section through the at- Fig. 4. The, socket members are preferably of cylindrical form and each receives therein one terminal of the spring 1. Each socket member has its walls provided with an integral tongue 4 which is bent over the outer open end of the socket so as to present an eye 5. The terminal'zof the tongue is soldered or otherwise suitably secured to the inner walls of the socket member and then bent to present a loop 7. Terminals of the spring 1 are provided with suitable hook portions 8 which are engaged in the loops 7 as shown in Fig. 3 whereby the adjacent terminals of the spring are maintained in the socket members. The eye portion 5 of one of the socket members is provided with a snap hook- 9 which is adapted tobe engaged in the eye 5 of the other socket member as shown in Fig. 1 whereby the binder is held in tied posltion around the package. 7
I claim A socket. comprising a hollow member constructed of a single piece of material and provided with a bent its terminal extended into the member and formed therewithin to provide an eye.
