To all whom it may concern:
end of the roll of paper, the disk being ad- Be it known that 1, Jon-N W. MCCRARY, justable in order that the-same may accom- United States, residing'at Ethan, in the county of Davison and State of South Dakota, haveinvented a new and useful Papering-Machine, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in paper. hanging machines.
The object of the invention is to provide a machine of this character which will efiectually apply the paper to the wall, said machine being provided with means for severing the paper.
A further object reservoir with'means for restricting a longitudinal opening formed in the same, the length of said opening being regulated according to the width of the paper used.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of invention'herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification,-Figure 1. .is a top plan view of the machine; Fig. 2 a side elevation; Fig. 3 a transverse section of the paste reservoir; and Fig. 4 a detail view of said reservoir.
In the drawings, 10 and 11 designate the longitudinal bars of a supporting frame by the transverse handle supporting bar 12, a handle 13 being secured centrally to said transverse bar. A roll supporting shaft 14. has trunnions bars 10 and 11, said shaft being provid adjacent one of its ends with a disk 17 which is stationary, a spring pressed brake 17' which is supported by 12 being arranged to contact with said disk, a movable disk 19 being adjustablymounted adjacent the other end of said shaft, said disk 19 being formed with a boss 20 through which a securing pin 21 passes, said pin enterin apertures 22 which extend transverse y through the shaft 14. This shaft 152 arranged to support the roll of wall paper, the adjustable disk 19 being moved on the shaft 14 and arranged to bear against one is to provide a paste by the paste 35, the paste the transverse bar from the shaft 12 and at the approximate longitudinal center of the harslO and 11 is arranged a paste applying roller 23, under which the paper 'which is designated as A passes. A plurality of segments 25' and 25 are secured to either of the members 10.and 11, said segments being formed with arcuate slots. A plurality of supporting arms 26 and 27 are pivotally supported by the shaft 23, on which the paste applying roller is positioned, said supporting arms receiving the trunnions 28 and 29 which are carried reservoir 30. The arms 26 and 27 are provided with adjusting -screws3l which extend within the slots formed in the segments 25 said supporting arms being capable of arcuate movement in order that the reservoir 30 may be adjusted, the tightening screws 31 holding the arms 26 in their adjusted position. The paper applying roller 32 is supported by the end portions of the members 10and 11, the roller 23 and said roller 32 being provided with sprockets 33 and 34, on which is arranged the chain applying roller being rotated as the paper applying roller is moved along the wall. Thus, serves the purpose of a paper feeding roller.- The paper, after it leaves the paste ap plying roller, is conducted beneath the transverse bar 35 which is substantially triangular .in cross section and vided 'with a knife edge 36. Arrange immediately below said member 35 is a cutting device 37, said. cutting device being pivotally supported by the members 10 and 11 and being provided ad acent one of its ends with an arm 38' which isadapted to swing the device 37 on its pivot 37 when actuated by the wire or cable 39, which cable is passed over a plurality of pulleys 40 and 4:1, in order that the same may be conveniently manipulated by the operator, the cable passing along the handle member 13. Itwill be seen that when it is desired to sever the paper, the arm 38 is actuated through the cable 39, the pivoted cutting device being swung upward, severing the paper, the paper being held in position to be severe by the transverse bar 35.
which is prothe paste applying roller also nally disposed aperture 43 which, when the a frame, a roll holder supported by said frame, a paste supplying roller, a cylindrical reservoir arranged above said paste supplying roller, said reservoir being formed with a longitudinal slot and a member arranged to gradually decrease the length of said slot.
2. In a machine for applying wall paper, a frame, a roll holder supported by said frame, apaste supplying roller, a cylindrieal reservoir arranged above said paste supplying. .roller, said reservoir being It will be seen from the foregoing that a device of this character may be used to effectually place the wall paper on the Wall, means being provided for applying paste to the same together with means for efi'ectually severing the paper, the structure being such that it may be manufactured economically and conveniently handled.
The reservoir 30 which is positioned above the paste applying roller 23 consists of a hollow cylindrical member provided with a suitable aperture 42 through which the receptacle is filled,,said receptacle being further provided with the longitudiprovided with a plurality of elongated slots, and a' shutter arranged within and concentric to said reservoir, said shutter being formed with a tapered edge portion, and pins carried by said shutter and extending through the elongated slots formed in the reseri oir. v 1 p 3. n a machine or applyin wall paper, a frame, a roll holder suppo i ted by said receptacle is mounted on the supporting arms, lies directly above the paste applying roller. Arranged within the receptacle 30 and conforming in shape to the inner wall of said receptacle is a shutter or closure 44, which shutter is formed with the tapering edge 45 which'is moved forward and back Ward across the aperture '43 to restrict the same, the shutter being moved by means of the adjusting screws 46 which work in the slots 47 arranged in the receptacle.
It will be noted that the roll holding shaft is providedwith adjustable means in order that the same may adapt itself to rolls of paper which vary in width. Therefore-, from, the foregoing it will be noted that the opening in the paste reservoir may be regulated to supply paste to rolls which vary in frame, a paste supplying roller, a cylindri cal reservoir arranged above said paste supplying roller, said reservoir being formed with a longitudinal slot and a'member arranged within the reservoir for gradually decreasing the length of saidslot.
