" To aliwhontit may concern; i f

Letters Patent No. 103,016, datediMay 17,1870.
- IMRovEMENT iN STEAMATRAPS.
The YSzeheixle referred -to in thes Letters I atent an-dmak'in'g partici the same.
Be itknown-'that I, I'SAIA'H B. CoLuMAN, of 'Detroit, inlthe county of Wayneand State of Michigan,
i have invented a new. `useful Improvement. in Steam- Traps; andI do herebydeclare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will 4 enable others skilled in `the art to make and use the j saine, reference being haA to the accompanying drawan'd water-traps, an'djconsists iu combningapair ot' Vpointed centering-pinswith the shaft of the trap, and the other parts usuailyappertaining thereto, to prevent sticking or frictional pressure.
Figure l is asidel elevation of a trap constructed i according to my improvement, a part of the valve being broken out'tofsliowthe valve-seat, and
Figure 2 is aplan view partly sectioned.
parts.'
A` is-vafhollowv giobeoroth'er suitably shaped hollow,
vessel provided at one side k.with a vertical plane 'disk or valve-seat, B,s\vth `ports a, and having au exhaust or discharge-pipe, C, leading from it and through the i case or reservoir D.` This escape-pipe is preferably Seated t0 the' OOIfof the reservoir, so `as to form a support' for the vessel A, l
F is the rotary' disk-valve mounted on a shaft, VGr," suppsrted in the horizontal axis of theseat B on .Tliisinvention relates to improvements iu steam Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding needle points? or lcenter .pins H'H', suitably ar-f ranged in supports attached tojthe globe. A,to which shaft the stern of the float I is'conneeted, so 'as to turni't :1s-the' water rises or falls. This valve F is also provided Vwith ports wbiclnwhen Vthefloat is raised bythe water in the easel), will be turned to coincide with the ports in the vaive-seat, to allow the escape of the water, and which will be turned when the water falls to eut offer close the passages orports,
and prevent the escape'of the steam.`
Thevalve Iis adjusted against the seatby the center-pin H, which is set up'to press it with the required forceto insure a water and steamtight joint before the'pin H is setup. Bothtlrcse pins have jam nuts to hold them in place.A l
This arrangement provides a very .etiieient trap,-
which, it isbeiieved, will be very durable and uniform lin operation. It may be adjusted from time to time to tighten the vaive,in case vthat it wears so as to leak.
Having thus described my invention, `I claim; as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- I i The pointed centering-pins H H', constructed, ar-
ranged, and applied in a steam-trap, as and for the purpose described. IsAIAII B. COLEMAN.
