To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, AUGUST P. GEISER, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at VVashingt-on, in the county of Washington and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Poles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

This invention relates to curtain poles, and the objects of my invention are to eliminate the necessity of using rings and pins for attaching the upper ends of curtains to a pole, and to provide a sectional curtain pole for holding the upper ends of curtains without injury to the same.

Further objects of my invention are to provide a sectional curtain pole with novel means for retaining the sections thereof together, and to accomplish the above results by a mechanical construction that is durable, inexpensive to manufacture, neat in appearance and highly eflicient for the purposes for which it is intended.

With the above and other objects in view the invention resides in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed.

Reference will now be had to the drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a perspective View of a pole with the caps thereof removed. Fig. 2 is an enlarged longitudinal sectional view of a portion of the pole, Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view taken on the line III-III of Fig. 2, and Fig. 4; is a cross sectional view of the pole showing the ends of curtains held thereby.

A pole in accordance with this invention comprises three segment-shaped sections, 1, 2 and 3, the sections 1 and 2 being similar and the section 3 of a less cross sectional area than the sections 1 and 2 and said sections when assembled forming a pole that is cylindrical throughout. The sections 1, 2 and 3 have the confronting sides thereof provided with longitudinal grooves to form a V-shaped opening 4 that extends in proximity to the ends of the pole. tend past the longitudinal axis of the pole, but at the ends of the pole, the sections 1, 2 and 3 are shaped whereby their inner edges will be in the longitudinal axis of the pole, as best shown in Figs. 2 and 3. This necessitates beveling the ends of the section 3, as at 5 and the confronting edges of the sections are grooved to provide an opening 6 at each end of the pole.

Upon the ends of the pole are mounted caps, each cap comprising a head 7 and a sleeve 8. Mounted in the end of the head 7 and extending into the sleeve 8 is a tapering pin 9 that enters the opening 6 of the pole and spreads and forces the sections 1, 2 and 3 outwardly into frictional contact with the inner walls of the sleeve 8 thereby cla]mping the sleeve upon the end of the po e.

As shown in Fig. 4, the upper ends of curtains 10 are placed between the sections 2 and 3, over the section 3 and then between said section and the section 1, in other words, the upper ends of the curtains are hung over the section 3 and then the sections 1 and 2 clamped into engagement with the section 3 to retain the curtains in position.

The curtain pole can be made of wood or metal and finished to present a neat appearance.

What I claim is A curtain pole comprising segmentshaped sections adapted to be fitted together to provide a pole that is cylindrical throughout, said sections having the confronting faces thereof grooved to provide a V-shaped opening to receive the upper ends of curtains whereby the curtains can be draped over one of said sections, caps detachably mounted upon the ends of said sections, and tapering pins located within said caps and extending in between said sections to frictionally hold said sections in engagement with said caps.
