To all whom t may concern:
Beit known that I, GEORGE D. HILL, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Louisville, in the county of Jefferson and 5 State of Kentucky, have invented new and useful Improvements in Rail-Fastenings for Use with Reinforced Railway-Ties, of which the following is a specification.
My invention has reference to reinforced composite railway ties, having new, improved and effective means provided for fastening and retaining the railway rail to the reinforcement in said improved reinforced tie, and consists of a body of any desired form -or shape having embedded therein twisted metal reinforcement of the shape and style shownby the accompanying-draw ing, to strengthen and reinforceithefconcrete or other suitable plastic material, by which this reinforcement must be surrounded in reinforced railway ties of this class, to

'The side 18 and the end 19 of the metallic casting-box form, in Fig. 6, are collapsed, with side 17 standing in a vertical position with reference to its base. The side 17 has vertical slots 2O near each end, and at the proper distance apart for the reception of the shoulders 3 of the rail fastening device, after the duplicate parts of the reinforcement 6 shall have been fastened together by the joint 7, Fig. 2. These slots 20, in the` side 17 of the metallic casting-box form, thus suspend-without any additional support or contrivances for holding same in position-the metal reinforcement in reinforced railway ties of this class, so that the collapsible ends, 19 and 19, and the other side 18 of this metallic casting-box form,
may be moved on their hinges so as to form a receptacle for the retention of the concrete or other plastic material in which the reinforcement must be embedded to form the body of the railway tie.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Lety ters Patent, is
1. A reinforced concrete railway tie, having a rail fastening fastened thereon com- Y prising two flange shaped shoulders for the reception and retention of the rails, with a locking plate fitting therein, substantially as described and set fort-h.
2. A reinforced railway tie consisting of a body of concrete, or suitable plastic material, wherein is embedded twisted shaped metallic longitudinal reinforcements, with rail fastening devices, each of said rail fas- 1 tening devices consisting of two liange shaped shoulders fastened to the reinforcement, embedded in the concrete or other suitable plastic material forming the body of said tie, having recesses in the inside faces for the retention in place of a rail fastening plate, substantially as described and set forth.
3. A reinforced railway tie consisting of a body of concrete or suitable plastic material wherein is embedded twisted shape metallic longitudinal reinforcements, with rail fastening devices attached thereto, each of said rail fastening devices consisting of two flanged shoulders fastened to the reinforcement, embedded in the concrete, or other suitable plastic material, forming the body of said reinforced railway tie, adapted to receive and retain a metallic locking plate with fastening clips of unequal thickness on opposite diagonal corners, for widening the gage of rails to the extent necessary to suit the degree of curvature, substantially as described and set forth.
4. A twisted shape metallic longitudinal reinforcement with rail fastening devices attached thereto, each of said rail fastening devices consisting of two flange shaped shoulders, fastened to the reinforcement, in combination with a suitable metallic casting-box having slots in its 'sides in which the said shoulders are adapted to lit, for suspending in proper position the metallic reinforcement, while being surrounded by the concrete or other lsuitable plastic material, substantially as described and set forth.
5. A metallic railway fastening device with reversible gage adjusting fastening plate fitting therein, in combination with a reinforced concrete railway tie and rail mounted thereon and the metallic reinforcement embedded therein, substantially as described.
6. A reinforced4 railway tie, consisting of a body of concrete or other suitable plastic material, wherein are embedded twisted shape metallic longitudinal reinforcement with rail fastening devices attached thereto, each of said rail fastening devices consisting of two flange shaped shoulders fastened to the reinforcement embedded in the concrete or other plastic material forming the body of said reinforced railway tie, having directly underneath a metallic box filled with asphalt, and attached to the reinforcement by rivets or bolts and being embedded in the concrete or other plastic material simultaneously with the reinforcement in said reinforced railway tie, each of these metallic boxes beingv filled with asphalt act-ing as a cushion for the rails resting inthe rail fastening devices and for keeping the locking plate in said rail fastening devices from working loose, by reason of any jar to which they may be subjected, substantially as described and set forth.
