Description
'WILLIAM ,sflooK'rlos or New YORK, N. Y.
Leners 15mm No. 102,877, dazed-May 1o, 1870.
IMPRovBD covers FOR eHAn/IBERy vEssELs.
` The Schedule referred to these Letters Patent and making part: of the same.
To `all 'whom 'it may concern-.-
Beit known that I',W1LL1AM S'roon'rox, ot` the city and county of NewYork, and State of N ew'Yoi-k,
have invented' certain new and useful Improvements in Covers for Vessels; and- I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof. i My improved cover is intended more especially for use on chamber-pots, but it may be used on other ves-- sels. I.will endeavorto describe it without offending the taste. l
The drawing represents the novel part, willi only ,so much of the other part as is necessary to show itsrelation thereto..
Bothlthc figures represent acent'ial vertical section,
`and similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts; l' l. A A is thetop rim and upper portion of the vessel.
, Figure 2 diersli'ronr Figure `1 onlyjin fliaving the yessel more swelled. will' operate successfully with considerable variation in the swell' of the vessels.
t serves to show how my cover The ordinary Bange at the top is marked A'. My covermay .be oi' Crockery ware. It is represented bythe letters B B b.
B is the main body of the cover, and ,Y Bis a flange corresponding to the flange A' and resting thereon. It supports the body B within and I .extending do'wn a little distance into the vessel. The
bottom of the cover B is inclined, and the hole l1 in l 4the side of the.` cover, opposite the lowest part of the inclined bottom, causes any water thrown into the cover to require scalding. or washing.
to be projected against the inner surface of thel side of the vessel A where it trickles down.
The hole b is always closeto the side of the A, and allows for b'ut a very insignificant ventilation. With this exception, it will'bc observed that my cover will be as air-tight as anyother. It is adapted to it upon the ordinary forms of vessels, and, by avoiding the ringing noise occasioned by the removing and replacing ot the ordinary cover, allows water to befprof jected into it with any degree of force withoutnoisel Presenting no crannies or recesses dilicult ot accessV f vfor thorough and convenient cleaning, while performf elevated cover, itsupplies a want long felt, and, as ,I- believe, never ybefore supplied. x
It may be glazed and decorated for highpriced ware. It may be madeot' various materials. .Lhe inclination vof `its bottom may be varied within considerable lim, its. It may have an ordinary cover over it, if preferred.
Ordinarily, its under surface will not be .soiledA so as Cold water dashed into it vafter each use will usually keep `it reasonably clean, in any but the warmest` weather, and make it inoli'ensive without the necessity1 of. an additional cover. I claim the'within-described cover adapted to serve in the manner herein set forth.,
