IMPRovED RlvETlNc-HAMMER.
1 Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 102,871., dated May 10, 1870.
` To dll 'whom t'tmdy concern:
the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, y have invented a new and useful Improvementin Riveting-Hammers, of which the follow-ing is a specification.
Our invention is designed to be used for riveting lock-work for clocks; and it consists in the employment of a presser-spring arranged in combination with a riveting punch orhammer, and projecting below the end of the same, as hereinafter described.

The operation is as follows: Thewire a is gripped and held in the jaws A, with its end projecting from the same a little more than the diameter of the shaft b. .The shaft is placed with the hole, which has been previously drilled to receive the wire a, immediately over the end of the same, when the hammer is made to descend. The spring 0, being in advance of the punch B, strikes the shaft b,.and presses it down upon thewirev until it rests upon the jaws A, when the spring depressesor yields and allows the punch to advance through the slot d, andhead the wire in the usual manner. Without the employment of the spring c it is necessary to drive the shaft b onto the wire a With a handhammer or otherwise previous tothe fall of the punch B.
We claim as our invention- The combination of the jaws A, presser-` spring c, heading-punch B, and hammer C, all constructed and operating together substantially as described.
