Specification of Letters latent.
Application filed. June 8, 1911.
Patented June 4, 1912.
Serial No. 632,019. I
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARTHUR C. STEBBINS, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Lansing, county of Ingham, and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Methods of Packing and Packages for Disassembled WVheelbarrows, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in methods of packing and packages for disassembled wheelbarrows.
The main object of this invention is to provide an improved package for the parts of disassembled wheelbarrows in which the frame is utilized for the main part of the crate or package.
Another object is to provide an improved method of packing wheelbarrows in their disassembled condition by which they are packed with the addition of a very little material to the parts of the disassembled wheelbarrows.
Further objects, and objects relating to structural details, will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification.
The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claims.
A structure which is a preferred embodiment of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming a .part of this application, in which:
Figure I is a perspective view of a package embodying the features of my invention, the package shown, containing all the parts of-12 disassembled wheelbarrows, excepting the trays which are not illustrated. Fig. II is a detail longitudinal section taken on a line corresponding to the broken line 22 of Fig. I, the parts being shown in full lines to better illustrate their form. Fig. III is a transverse section taken on a line corresponding to line 3-3 of Fig. II, parts being shown in full lines. Fig. IV is a detail transverse section taken on a line corresponding to line 44 of Fig. I. Fig. V is an enlarged detail section taken on a line corresponding to line 55 of Fig. I. Fig. VI is a perspective view of one of the wheelbarrow legs 13, leg brace 14, cross piece 6, axle bearings 16, axle 17 and tray support 18.
In the drawing, similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views, and the sectional views are taken looking in the direction of the little arrows at the ends of the section lines.
Referring to the drawing, the frames 1 of the wheelbarrows are A-shaped in general form and are formed of tubular material. These frames 1 are provided with cross pieces 2 and 3. The trays are not shown.
The package illustrated, contains the parts of a dozen wheelbarrows with the exception of the trays. The cross pieces 2 and 3 are all removed from the frames except the outer two.
The frames are superimposed upon each other with the frames having the cross pieces 2 and 3 thereon on the outside. The superimposed frames are secured together to form .the side walls of the package by means of the bolts 4, which are arranged through the cross pieces 2 and 3 of the outer frames, (see Fig; II.) the bolts 5, which are arranged through cross pieces 6, and vertically through the series of superimposed frames (see Fig. 4), the bolts 7, which are arranged centrally through the rear cross pieces 3, and the cross pieces 3, the hooked ends 8 of which are engaged over the outer frames. Transverse bolts 9 connect opposite cross pieces 3 arranged as shown in Fig. I.
The top and bottom walls 10 and 11 are provided. These walls are arranged under the cross pieces 2 and 3 of the outer frames, and the cross pieces 6 which are secured by the bolts 5. This provides inclosed space for the legs 13, leg brace 14, the cross pieces 6 not used in making the package, the axles 16 with their bearings 17, and the tray supporting members 18. (See Fig. VI.)
The wheels 19 are stacked in the open ends broken by rough usage in handling are pro tected by the heavy frame pieces so that there is no danger of their being broken or destroyed; The package may be handled as though provided with a special crate. This not only saves the cost of the crate, but the extra cost of transportation charges; and further, the WheelbarroWs are packed in the most compact manner possible.
The trays are nested and suitably secured together in a separate package. I have not illustrated them herein, as the package therefor forms no part of this invention.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A package for the parts of disassembled wheelbarrows, comprising side Walls formed of a plurality of super-imposed A- shaped Wheelbarrow frames, strap like frame cross pieces having hooked ends disposed as side Wall and top and bottom cross pieces, the hooked ends of theside Wall cross ieces bein en a ed over the outer frames the cross pieces of the outer frames being in position, top and bottom Walls arranged under the cross pieces of the outer frames, cross bolts connecting opposed cross pieces, and bolts arranged through the side members of the frames.
2. A package for the parts of disassembled Wheelbarroivs, comprising side Walls formed of a plurality of superimposed A- shaped Wheelbarrow frames, strap -like frame cross pieces having hooked ends disposed as side Wall and top and bottom cross pieces, the hooked ends of the side Wall cross pieces being engaged over the outer frames, the cross pieces of the outer frames being in position, and top and bottom Walls arranged under the cross pieces of the outer frames.
3. A package' for the parts of disassembled Wheelbarrovvs, comprising side Walls formed of a plurality of superimposed A- shaped Wheelbarrow frames, frame cross frames being in position, and top and bot- 1 tom Walls arranged under the cross pieces of the outer frames. v
In Witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal in the'presence of tWo Witnesses.
ARTHUR C. STEBBIIS. I Witnesses:
