and the Like by Means of Flat Rotating Knives, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a machine for cutting meat and lard in which the material is cut into longitudinal strips by groups of rotating knives arranged oppositely and cooperating with each other.
The invention mainly consists in the fiat rotary knives being guided by grid bars arranged between them, and being firmly held near each other, so that each pair of cooperating knives out like shears. The grid bars are mounted interchangeably so that the distance between the single knives of each group of knives can be modified as desired by inserting grid bars of different thickness. The grid bars arranged between the groups of knives which are the nearest to the outlet end of the machine, are pivoted at the rear ends, so that the material which passes through the knives, can be compressed by a load on the free ends of the said grid bars, whereby the tearing out of the material by the transverse cutting knives passing in front of the outlet end, is prevented.
A construction of the machine according to this invention is illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1 is a longitudinal section through the machine, Fig. 2 a section on the line NN of Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 an elevation of the outlet end of the machine.
In the casing a of the machine are-arranged two groups of rotating knives in pairs. Each two groups of the said knives, Z) 5 or 0 c, the shafts (Z cl or e c, respectively, of which are parallel to each other, work together. The knives of the groups I) Z) are arrangedin the vertical plane, while the knives of the groups 0 c are horizontal. The shafts (Z (Z' of the groups of knives b b are accordingly arranged horizontally above or below the passage conduit f for the material to be out, while the shafts e e are mounted vertically at both sides of theconduit The driving of the groups of knives groups, in rotating cooperate so as to produce a shear-like out. The single knives of each group, secured in any suitable manner to their shafts d d c e, are further separated from each other by means of intermediate rings .9. In the construction illustrated, the grid bars h of the knives c 0 are secured to the casing of the machine by means of screw or take up bolts 2', so. that they can be easily removed together with the knife groups 0 c and replaced by thicker or thinner bars for modifying the distance apart of the single fiat knives. The bars situated between the knives of the groups I) b, are rotatably mounted at their rear end facing away from the outlet of the conduit f for the material to be cut, at 70. The bars situated between the knives of the bottom group I), rest with their front ends in the bottom surface of the conduit on projections Z, while the front ends m of the bars 9 situated between the knives of the upper group b can swing downward freely. These grid bars g, of the upper group, can be loaded, by means of the rod n, guided in the upper portion of the casing, a and acted upon by weights 0, and are pressed by the action of the said weights downward against the material to be out contained in the conduit By this arrangement the said material cannot be torn out by the transverse cutting knives 29 passing in front of the outlet end of the conduit f and secured to a wheel Q, and a proper cutting of the material, for instance into cubes, is efiected by the knives 3), since the material is cutby the groups of knives 0 0 and b 6 into strips in vertical and horizontal planes. The grid bars situated between the knives of each group, are preferably held together in the form of a grid at their ends by means of rality of vertically disposed lower disk-like knives rotatably mounted in parallel relationto each other for coaction with said upper knives, a set of grids for retaining said lower knives inspaced apart relation to each other at a predetermined distance, the said grids being disposed parallel to the lower knives and extending longitudinally cross-Wise above the axis of rotation thereof, a second set of grids adapted to retain said upper knives in shearing relation to said lower knives, said second set of grids being disposed parallel to the upper knives, and extending below the axis of rotation thereof, means pivotally mounting said second set of grids at one end rearwardly with respect to the path of travel of the material cut by said knives, yieldable means for normally forcing said second set of grids with its forward end downwardly toward said first set of grids, and a lmife movable crosswise the path of travel of the material cut, and in succeeding relation to the forward end of said first and second set of grids, substantially as and for the purpose set forth,
