APPARATUS FOR CLEANING AND SEPARATING SEEDS AND THE LIKE.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, FREDERICK MALCOLM DosSoR, a subject of the King of Great Britain and Ireland, residing at Doncaster, in the county of York, England, have invented new and useful Improvements in Apparatus for Cleaning and Separating Seeds and the Like, of which the following is a speciiication.
This invention relates to seed cleaning and separating machines of the type described in the specifications of my prior patents numbered 846915 (March 12, 1907) and 866848 (September 24, 1907), and consists mainly in a vertical main frame of improved'construction, on both sides of which cleaning sections are arranged, also in an improved method of constructing and mounting the brackets (which carry the various parts of which the cleaning sections are composed) in such a manner that the sections can be adjusted and varied as to their working angles either simultaneously or separately as desired, the vertical position of the main frame being still maint-ained.
Figure 1 is an end elevation of my improved apparatus, with covers removed. Fig. 2 is an elevation of opposite end of apparatus, also with covers removed. Fig. 3 is an enlarged plan of carrying bracket showing ledge for attachment to board for securing together each section. Fig. 4 is an end view of Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is an enlarged plan of part of Fig. 1, showing means for raising or lowering the angles of the sections. Fig. 6 is an elevation showing adjustable carrier for bosses at lower ends of brackets which may be employed when separate adjustment of the sections is required.
According to my present invention, to the vertical ends of a central frame A, vertical angle irons B are affixed, in the projecting flat or web of which circular recesses C are made at suitable intervals. These recesses C being cut away in their upper portions, in a slot D of less width than the diameter of the recess C, form a bearing for the introduction and support of the aforesaid carrying brackets E. These carrying brackets E are constructed as to their outer sides with elongated circular bosses F at their upper and lower ends, forming bearings for the roller spindles Gr, and on the bosses F at the upper ends flats I-I are cut. On the inner side of each bracket E is a projecting ledge I on Specicaton of Letters Patent.

which rests and is secured the end of a connecting board J, the surface of which is level with the tops of therollers K. The brackets E being placed on the roller spindles G, and the connecting board J secured by screws to the ledges I on the brackets E, a rigid working section is formed. By holding this section in a position slightly higher than a normal .working angle, the flats H on the bracket bosses F may be passed into or withdrawn through the slots D into the circular recesses C inthe angle iron B. The bosses F at the lower end of the brackets E are supported in recesses L in vertical bars M at each side and end of vthe machine frame, these bars M being sesupported at their inner ends on forked carriers N which slide and are adjustable upon the vertical rods M.
The bosses F at the lower 'end of the brackets E of each bottom section, or the bottom end of the vertical bars M, are in contact with the outer ends of pivoted d0uble levers O at one end, and pivoted single levers O1 at the other end, pivoted on cross shafts P on each side of the machine, the said cross shafts P running through the machine and having projecting ends which form handles for lifting the machine. The inner ends of the said double levers O are connected by links or rods Q to each wing of a screw R, and threaded or tapped upon the screw R at one end of the machine is a hand wheel S, the screw R passing through a hole in a xed bracket T attached to the frame A, and. being secured above by a lock nut or nuts U. By turning the hand wheel S one way or the other,v it raises or depresses the pivoted levers O and O1 upon which the bottom of the vertical bars M or the lower bosses F of the bottom section bracket rests, t-hus lifting or lowering the whole of the brackets E and rollers K simultaneously.
A cross conveyer belt V is placed under the machine, carried on suitable rollers and driven by chain and chain wheels W or other suitable means. This belt V receives and discharges the waste products of the lower cleaning sections.
When any of the cleaning sections are required to be worked at a dierent angle from the others, they maybe so adjusted by raising or lowering (on the vertical rods M) the carriers N which support the lower ends of their brackets E.
I claim:
1. An apparatus for cleaning and separating seeds comprising a frame, vertical` angle irons having bearing recesses and slots, and vertical connecting rods also having recesses, brackets having bosses at each end, each upper boss having flats which pass through the slots into the bearing recesses provided in the angle irons and the lower bosses being carried in the recesses of the connecting rods, and ledges on the brackets, cleaning sections and supporting boards for the cleaning sections carried on the ledges.
2. An apparatus for cleaning and separating seeds comprising a frame, vertical angle irons thereon having bearing recesses with slots leading therefrom, vertical connecting rods brackets having upper bosses with flats adapted to pass through the slots in the angle irons and lower bosses andy forked carriers for the lower bosses adJustably mounted on the connecting rods, ledges on the brackets and supporting boards carried by the ledges. 3. In apparatus of the type described for cleaning and separating seeds and the like,
cleaning sections, the mechanism for simulscrew carried in a bracket fixed to one end of the frame, an operating hand wheel'on the screw, and links connecting the screw to kthe pivoted double levers on each side, substantially as herein set forth.
