To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, LUTHER EUBANK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Raymond, in the county of Madera and State of California, have invented a new and useful Milk-Pail, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to milk pails.

The object of the invention is to provide a milk pail having novel means for supporting the same upon the knees of an operator, whereby to leave both of his hands free for milking, and further to construct the body of the pail on such contour that it will fit comfortably between the legs of the user and protect his clothing both at the knees and crotch from becoming fouled by milk, the portion of the pail fitting between the crotch constituting in addition to a shield, a spout to facilitate the discharge of the contents of the pail into a suitable receptacle, without spilling.

With the above and other objects in view, as will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in a pail of isosceles triangular form, when viewed in plan the vertices of which are rounded, and the apex of which is considerably elongated to provide a spout which when the pail is in use, is designed to fit between the crotch of the legs of the operator and thus constitute a shield to protect his clothes from becoming splashed by milk. Projecting outward from the pail rim are supports that extend nearly throughout the entire length of the sides of the pail and are transversely curved to fit the upper portion of the legs of the user, the contour of the body of the pail permitting of its being supported in place without any inconvenient spreading of the operators legs, or of the exertion of lateral pressure to retain it in position.

Further and more specific details of construction will be hereinafter described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, and in which like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts :Figure l is a view in side elevation of a milk pail constructed in accordance with the present invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse sectional view taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the pail. Fig. 4 is a rear perspective View of the pail.

The body 1 of the pail is, as clearly shown in Fig. 3, of isosceles triangular shape, when viewed in plan, and has rounded vertices 2 to prevent the formation of sharp corners which would be objectionable and would tend to retain milk, thus rendering difiicult thorough cleaning of the article, the rim 3 being, as usual, for the purpose of reinforcement. The apex of the body is long and narrow, and constitutes a spout a to facilitate emptying the contents of the pail without spilling. In addition to constituting a spout, the part t also serves the further function of a shield to protect the clothes of the operator, at the crotch, from becoming soiled from the splashing of milk. Projecting outward from the sides of the body are supports 5, which may be either integral with the rim or be secured thereto, as preferred, the outer edges 6 of the supports being beaded for purpose of reinforcement, and are trans versely bowed or curved to conform to the legs of the user.

The pail is provided with the usual handle carrying bail 7 and finger hold 8, that perform the ordinary functions of such parts.

It will be noted that the points of junction between the supports and rim are of curvilinear shape, and this will operate still further to assist in the maintaining of the pail in a sanitary condition, as by this arrangement there will be no inaccessible spaces in which milk can lodge.

The improvements, as a whole, are of simple character, but will cooperate to present an elficient and thoroughly practical milk pail, and one that will embody all that is desirable in an article of this kind.
