Be it lmown that I, FRANK IV. BROCK, residing at Chatham, in the county of Sanga- Inon and State of Illinois, have invented a new and Improved Advertising Device, of

' which the following is a specification.

This invention, in its general nature, comprehends improvements in that class of advertising devices or means that are coperatively connected with cash registers, sales counters and the like and which are set into operative action when said registers or other change making or counter mounted indicator or registering appliances are operated, and the said invention, in its more specific nature is in the nature of an advertising device or means more especially designed Vfor cooperating with and to be actuated by a money drawer when the same is pulled out in the act of making cha-nge, such for eX- ample as the money drawer for the ticket selling window of railway stations or other public places.

This invention embodies an endless carrier having advertising signs, cards or other indicator portions so mounted that the said signs or cards are intermittently, under a step-by-step movement of the carrier, brought into view on the counter over which V the ticket or money change is passed to the buyer and in 'which certain automatically set devices are used and are controlled by the outpull and the return movements of the ticket or money drawer for shifting and holding the said endless sign carrier.

In its more specific nature, my invention consists in certain details of construction and peculiar combination of parts, all of which will be hereinafter fully explained,

stood that my said invention may be readily adapted to store counters, bar counters and such other places, where it is customary to hand out goods or money over a table or counter to the buyer.

In carrying out my invention,I employ an endless carrier, holding advertisements, that is intermittently fed forwardly, stepby-step, as the money or ticket drawer is pulled open and in the showing made in the drawings the said carrier consists of two sprocket chains 1 1 of suitable length, for example, one hundred and twenty links and each of the said chains passes over driver sprocket wheels 3 3, and over an upper and lower guide sprocket wheel designated 2 and 2O respectively. The two driver sprocket wheels 3 3 are flXedly mounted on a shaft 4 suitably journaled in the casing sides 5 5 pendent from the under side of the counter 6, and near the Arear or inner end of the drawer 7 when the latter is in its closed in position.

10 designates a rack bar that rides on roller bearings l1 12 that engage the upper and lower edges thereof, and the latter is positioned to mesh with the upper edge of the pinion 8 and by reason thereof, when the bar is vpulled in the direction of the arrow fr, see Fig. 2, the shaft, through the medium of pawl and ratchet devices, before mentioned, is rotated a predetermined degree and thereby moves the chains 1 1 and shifts the advertising cloth l21 thereon to bring a new advertisement into view of the ticket purchaser, and also a new ad. in the opening 13 in the front of the counter when my invention is applied as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, it being understood that when the rack 10 is returned, by the closing of the drawer, the pinion 8 turns loosely on t-he shaft 4. To provide for a positive action of the rack and pinion devices, I arrange the drawer 7 in such a manner relatively to the said rack, and pinion andthe inner edge of the counter that the drawer must be pulled out a certain distance before the ticket agent can put money into it or take out any of the contents thereof and in the drawing I have shown the several parts so cooperatively combined that the drawer must be pulled out, say four inches, before easy access thereto can be had, and it is this movement of the drawer that is utilized for actuating the rack 10. For effecting the operation stated and for automatically releasing the rack from the drawer, after it has made the desired pull on the rack 8, I employ a hook member 16, that is pivotally mounted on the rear or inner end of the rack. The hook member 1G is in the nature o-f a bell crank lever the upper or horizontal member of which terminates in a beveled nose 16ZL and has a lock notch 1G". The member 16 is normally held to its upright position by a coiled spring 17 around the pivot I6c one end of which is made fast to the rack bar 10 and the other to the member 16. 'Ihe pendent portion of the member 16 forms a heel for striking a stop 18, located at the rear wall of the counter casing, and the said stop is so positioned that when the drawer has moved out and pulled the rack 10 with it the predetermined distance, the locking hook is swung to release the lock notch 16b from the hook 19 that projects from the rear end of the drawer.

For holding the rack, the pinion and the ad. carrier to its set position while the drawer remains pulled out and is released from the rack 8, I provide a pivoted lever 21 that includes an upwardly extended member having an inturned finger 22 that rides on the upper edge of the rack 10 and ispulled down into a notch 81 in the said edge by the action of the spring 23, when the rack is pulled out. The lever 21 also includes a heel 211 for engaging a beveled lug 25 on the side of the drawer which, when the drawer is shoved in, rides over the heel 211- and tilts the lever 21 to'swing its finger' 2 2 out of the notch 81.

From the foregoing taken in connect-ion with the drawings the complete manner in which my invention operates and its advantages will be readily apparent. By reason of arranging the parts, as shown, when a ticket or other sale is made, and the drawer is pulled open, the first out movement of the drawer pulls the rack, turns ythe pinion and through the ratchet and pawl turns the sprocket wheels and shifts the endless sign holding carrier to the next position. During the first movement of the drawer, as stated, the pivoted lever 21 is released to allow its finger 22 to drop into the notch 81 when the rack has been shifted. On the end of the first movement of the drawer, the bell crank lever strikes the stop 18 and releases the rack' from the` drawer, it being clear from the drawing when the drawer is pushed back, the hook on the rear end rides onto the nose of the lever 16 and the notch 16b of which, under the coil spring action is moved into engagement with the said hook.

That I claim is 1. In an advertising device, a support yhaving at least one sight opening, an advertising carrier, a driving shaft therefor, a reciprocating rack bar, a pinion on said driving shaft cooperating with said rack bar, ratchet and pawl connections coperating with the said driving shaft to effect a uni-directional movement inrsaid carrier, a drawer member, coperative connections between said drawer member and said rack bar for reciprocating said rack bar, said connections including a latch member for joining said drawer member to said rack bar, and means for tripping said latch mem ber to release said connection after said drawer member has been moved a definite distance.

2. In an advertising device, a support having a sight opening, an advertising carrier mounted on said support and including a driving sprocket, a drawer member mount-i ed on said support, a reciprocating device for operating said driving sprocket and re* leasable connections between said reciprocating device and said drawer member by virtue of which said drawer member will operate said reciprocating device during a portion of the movement of said drawer member, and means for locking the driving sprocketand the carrier in their shifted position as the drawer completes its movement.

In an advertising device, a support 'having a sight opening, an advertising carrier mounted on said support and including a driving sprocket, a drawer member mounted on said support, a reciprocating device for operating said driving sprocket and relea-sable connections between said reciprocating device and said drawer member by virtue of which said drawer member will operate said reciprocating device during a portion of the movement of said drawer member, means for locking the driving sprocket and the carrier in their shifted position as the drawer completes its move-l ment, the said means being releasable by the return movement of the said drawer.

In an advertising device, a sup-port having a sight opening, an advertising carrier mounted on said support and including a driving sprocket, a drawer member mounted on said support, a reciprocating device for operating said driving sprocket and re- 4leasable connections between said reciprooperate said reciprocating device during a portion of the movementof said drawer member, means for locking the driving sprocket and the carrier in their shifted position, as the drawer completes its movement, and said means comprising a springmoved lever having a. member that interlocks with the reciprocating bar when the same has been moved by the drawer member and devices on the said drawer member 10 for releasing the said lever from the reciprocating bar during a return movement of the drawer.
