To all whom t may concern Be it known that I', CHARLIE av citizen of the United States, residing at Sacramento city, in the county of Sacra- 5 mento and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Faucets, Cocks, or the Like; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and
exact description of the' invention, such as will enable othersskilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invent-ion relates to new and` useful improvements in faucets, cocks or the like and the primary object of this invention is to provide a device of this character with means for automatically holding the locking valve in a closed posit-ion.
Another objecty of thisinvention is to provide means for operating' the valve of the faucet which will prevent unauthorized persons from tampering with the same during the temporary absence of the operator. A further object of this invention is to construct devices of this character rendering them simple in construction, strong, durable and efcient in use and comparatively cheap to manufacture and which will be of neat appearance to the eye of the observer.
With these and other objects in view, my invention consists of a novel construction, combination, formation and arrangement of parts hereinafter more specifically described and particularly pointed out in the append` ed claims. l Y

5 is provided with an opening 6 which registers wit-hin the branch and outlet port when the same is opened. A washer cap 6 is secured to the bottom of the turning valve 5 by means of a set screw 7 to prevent the removal ofthe same. The upper portion of the casing 1 is providedwith a pocket 8 1n which extends at one end the endy ofthe turning valve 5 and mounted in its opposite end as at 9r is a leaf spring 10 which is adapted toengage the turning valve for normally holding the same ina closed positlOl'l; Y y
One of the main features of this invention is theparticular construction and operation of the spring 10 which is very thin in width, as at 11, and thengradually increases in thickness as at 12-to an angular portion 18, having an enlargedend 14 which is adapted to rest upon the lug 15 formed on the turning valve when in its normal position and restin the recess' 16 formed in said turning valve when the said valve is in open position.
The pocket 8 is closed by a suitable cover 17 whichris secured to the casing by set screws as at 18 and has a key hole 19 formed therein to register with a recess 2O formed in the top of the turning valve. This recess may be of any desired size or form to conform to the shape of the operating key 2 1 which is used as a handle for operating the valve. q
Fromv the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing it is apparent that I have constructed a faucet which will be neat in appearance and constructed of very light material and which will perform all of the necessary requirements of such a device. Y
It is to be understoodl that other minor details of construction may be resorted to Without departing from the spirit of the invention'and which come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention, what I desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
L1. In a faucet comprising a casing havingv a turning plug mounted therein, the said plug havinga recess formed in the upper end thereof, a leaf spring gradually taper-V ing in width secured to said casing and the thickest end of said leaf springk adapted to rest in said recess substantially as described.
2. In a faucet comprising a casing having a turning plug mounted therein, the said turning plug having a recess therein, a lug extending from said plug adjacent said recess, a leaf spring, one end of which is secured to said casing, the opposite end adapted to rest against said lug to hold said turning plug in a closed position and to rest in said recess When said plug is in an open position.
3. In a'faucet comprising a casing provided With inlet and outlet ports, a turning plug mounted in said casing, having an opening to register with said inlet and outlet ports, the upper end of said turning plug having a recess in the periphery thereof, a lug extending from the periphery of the said turning plug adjacent said recess, the upper end of said casing being enlarged and having a pocket formed therein, the said turning plug extending into said pocket, a leaf spring increasing in Width, the thinner end of which is secured to the casing at one end of said pocket and the thicker end adapted to rest upon said lug formed on said turning plug, a. cover for closing said pocket, having an opening formed therein to register With a recess formed in said turning plug and a key adapted to extend through said opening into said recess for operating said turning valve, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
