Be itknown that I, LEON F. PARKHURST, residing at Binghamton, cbunty of Broome, State of New York, have .invented certain new and useful .Improvements in yElect-ric Sad-Irons of which the following isa full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relatesto electrically heated sad irons and is particularly concerned with improved means for connecting the leads ofthe circuit wlresfrom the source of energy.

As indicated in Figs. 2 and 4, the porcelain block is notched, or slotted, at 15 to receivethe terminals the ,connecting members, or plates, 16-16 are mpunted, whichplates are heldin pos'ition by screws 17--17 and. receive the bind-l ing screws 10-10 respectively at .one end. At the opposite ing screws 18-18 to which the leads 19-19 of the cable 20 are attached. The porcelain block is also provided with a second notch 21 similar to and vpreferably located dia'- metrically opposite the notch 15 to receive the cable 20. The box is providedwitha suitable cover 22, preferablyflijned with in- `sulating material, such as a layeri23 of paper, and both the coverand the lining are slotted at- QA-25 to pass the'heating terminals and the cable. To attach the cover to the boX securely, and without distorting the al tubularpost 26 to receive a screw 27 which is threaded into the handle bail 3. and secures 'the cover `inplace.`

By the. above described construction, it will be 'seen that the'terminals of the heating units are led outof` the body of the iron and are secured at a convenient point vfor connection with ythe leads of the energy circuit. Furthermore these connections are considerably removed from the heating effects of the body of the iron and are furthershielded by the terminal box.
In order to preserve the connection therewith of the circuit leads suitable attaching lbracket comprising a 28 having integral therewith an attaching arm 29 which ymay be convenientlysecured tothe handle bail by means of the boltV 4 which securesthe 8, which notch 1s mcllned from a point near the base of the -blockto the level of the raised seats in which the 'supply cable, the

The outer ends of the members 28 and 31' are enlarged somewhat as at 34, and such enlargement may have stamped therein a thread to receive a spirally arranged protecting Wire or armor 35 on the cable 20, Which preserves the latter against bending strains at the point of attachment. The tWo members 28 and 31, when 4clamped upon the cable, grip the same firmly and cause the threaded portion 34, at the same time, to take a firm hold upon'the Wire 35, hence this attaching member takes all of the pulling strain upon the cable and relieves the terminal box and the connection from said strain.
While I have herein described a particular-embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that the same may be altered in detailsand in the relative arrangement of parts Within the scope of the appended claims.
'What I claim is:
l. In an electric sad iron,l the combination with an iron body having heating units therein, of a terminal connector located outside of said body having the terminals of said units secured thereto, of a supply cable having circuit terminals leading into said connector and means for securing said cable connections to preserve said terminal connections from pulling strains on said cable.
2. In an electricsad iron, the combination with an iron body having heating units therein, a handle for said iron, a terminal connector mounted on said handle outside of said iron body and removed from the heating eifectstthereof and having the unit terminals connected therewith, ofa supply cable having its terminals connected With said connector and means for securing said cable to said handle independently of said connections With said connector.
3. In an electric sad iron, the combination with an iron body having heating units therein, a handle for said body, a supply cable, a connector mounted on said handle to receive the terminals of said units and said cable, and a bracket for securing said cable to said handle independently of the connections With said connector.
4. In an electr-'ic sad iron, the .combination with an iron body having heating units therein, a supply cable, a connectormounted on said iron outside ofsaid body and adapted to receive the terminals ofsaid units and 'said cable and a clamp located beyond said connector for securing said cable to said riron independently of said connector.
5. In an electric sad iron, the combina-- tion with an iron body having heating units therein, a supply cable, a connector for the terminals of said units and said cable located outside of said iron and a clamping bracket for attaching said cable to said iron independently of the connection With said connector.
6. In an electric sad iron, the combination With an iron body having heating units therein and having a handle bail attached thereto, a lhandle attached to said bail, a supply cable, a connector mounted on said handle bail and adapted to receive the terminals of said units and said cable, and an attaching bracket secured to said handle bail by the means for attaching said handle thereto, said cable attachment being independent of the connection of its terminals with said connector.
7. In an electric sad iron, the combination With an iron' body having heating units therein and having a handle, a supply cable, a terminal box mounted on said handle adapted to receive the terminals of said units and said cable, a bracket attached to said handle beyond said terminal boX to secure said cable to said iron whereby the connection of said cable With said terminal box will be relieved of pulling strains upon said cable. y

In an electric sad iron, the combination With an iron body having heating units therein, a supply cable therefor, a terminal connector onisaid iron adapted to receive the terminals of said units and said cable, an attaching clamp Afor said cable comprising a semi-cylindrical portion having an attaching bracket adapted to be secured to the handle of said iron, and a second semi-cylindrical portion coperating With the rst to clamp and hold said cable.
9. In an electric sad iron, the combination With an iron body having heating units therein, a supply cable, a terminal connector for the terminals of said units and said cable, said cable having a spirally arranged armor, an attaching member for said cable comprising a semi-cylindrical portion having a bracket adapted to be attached to the handle of the iron and having an enlargement at its outer end, a second semi-cylindrical portion coperating With the irst and having an enlargement at its outer end coinciding With that of the irst, said enlargements being internally threaded to receive said spiral armor, and means to clamp said portions together upon said cable and in engagement With said armor.
