SEBASTIAN BAUMGARTNER-HARTMANN, OF ZOLLIKON, SWITZERLAND.
DATE-INDICATOR FOR CLOCKS.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that vI, SEBASTIAN BA M GARTNER-HARTMANN, a citizen of the Republie of Switzerland, and a resident of Zollikon, Canton Zurich, Switzerland, have invented certain Improvements in DateIndicators for Clocks, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a date indicator which is connected either directly or inclirectly to a clock so as to be controlled thereby for indicating the date automatically.
The invention consists in the construction and combination of parts as hereinafter set forth and claimed, its object being to provide an indicator which is simple in its construction and reliable in its operation.
In the accompanying drawing the invention is illustrated by way of example, the indicator being shown as an independent structure.
Figure 1 of said drawing represents a front view of the apparatus in section on the line AB of Fig. 2, which is a plan of the apparatus without top-cover.
' The apparatus consists of a rectangular casing having side-walls 1, a bottom 2, a horizontal partition 3 and a detachable topcover 4. The partition 3 divides the casing into two compartments C and D of which the upper one C is the largest. Two vertical spindles 5 and 6 are rotatably held in the bottom 2 and in the partition 3 and serve for the reception of a paper strip 23 which is reeled from one spindle to the other. The paper strip is held on the spindles in the compartment C by means of bobbins 22 which are supported on the partition 3 by means of disks 7 the latter as well as the bobbins being squared on the spindles. Underneath the partition 3 the spindle 6 has a toothed wheel 9 which gears with a wheel 10 connected to a spring barrel 11. The latter is fitted on a separate shaft and is adapted to be wound up in known manner. The spindle 5 carries a circular disk 8 in the compartment D which disk has in its edge a notch 29. This notch is normally engaged by a pin 19 connected to a pivoted lever 18,
Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed October 25, 1911. Serial. No. 656,750.
Patented May 28,1912.
The strip is printed in known manner with date numbers distributed throughout its length, the distance between such numbers being such that a fresh number is brought into- View by each movement of the strip. The distance between the numbers must be gradually decreased toward the spindle 5 to compensate for the reduction in the feed as the reel grows smaller. An opening is provided in the front wall of the casing to allow the numbers to be read ofi. Angularly disposed walls 24 are carried from said opening toward the strip to guide the view and prevent more than one number being visible at a time.
With this arrangement and construction of the parts it is evident that a fresh number will appear on the indicator each day.
When, at the end ofthe quarter of the year, the strip has been reeled 01f, the cover 4 is removed and the old strip replaced by a fresh one, this being, owing to the disposition of the spindles, a very simple operation.
I claim A date indicator for clocks, comprising a casing having a detachable cover, a horizontal partition dividing said easing into two compartments, two spindles rotatably held in said partition and in the bottom of the casing so that their upper ends are left free in the upper compartment, disks connected to the spindles in said upper compartment for supporting thereon the reels of a paper strip bearing the date numbers, a spring barrel in the lower compartment acting on one of the spindles so as to move the strip, a disk mounted on the other spindle in the lower compartment, a pivoted lever having a pin normally in engagement With a notch in said disk so as to hold the strip stationary, a Wheel connected to the clock so as to be rotated by the latter about its axis once in 2% hours, a double-armed spring-actuated lever having one end disposed at the edge of said Wheel and the other end connected by a rod to said aforementioned lever, and a tooth on said Wheel disposed so as to rock said levers once during a revolution and disengage said 10 SEBASTIAN BAUMGARTNER-HARTMANN.
