Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALDA F. HAWKINS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dallas, in the county of Dallas and State of Texas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Hydraulic Fluid-Compressors, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention has reference to im provements in air and gas compressors.
It comprehends primarily an apparatus of the general type specified, which possesses a maximum degree of efficiency, as well as of simplicity, may be constructed at an extremely low cost, and includes among its component parts devices for delivering the fluid to be compressed to the storage tanks'in a dried and cooled state.
A sectional elevation of an embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing.
In said drawing, 5 indicates the compressing tanks, of which there may be any suitable number, said tanks being of any preferred construction and having pipe connections 6 with each other at their lower ends.
. Water is forced initially into one of the pressed, said pipe being provided with a controlling valve 16 which is closed after the desired quantity of fluid has been supplied to the compressing tanks, the fluid flowing thereinto through the main and branch pipes 13 and 12. From the upper end of the drier leads a pipe 17 which is connected at its lower end with the upper end of a cooling coil or coils, one coil only being shown in the construction illustrated. This. coil, which is indicated by the numeral 18, is located within one of thecompressingtanks, and its lower or exit end is equipped with a check valve 19 and communicates with the storage tanks 20 through the medium of a pipe connection 21 of the conventional type.
The storage tanks are in turn disposed within a receptacle 22 adapted to contain ice water, for maintaining said storage tanks cool while being charged. The two ends of the coil 18 project through openings formed in the wall of the compressing tank, to admit of their connection to the inlet and outlet pipes 17 and 21. The pipe 15, througlrwhich the fluid to be compressed flows into the drier 14, leads from a generator or other source of supply, (not shown). The compressing liquid is supplied to pump 7 through a pipe 23 leading from a reservoir, illustration of which is likewise omitted as being unnecessary, the branch 10 of pipe 8 also leading to this reservoir, so as to permit the return of the liquid thereto for reuse.
In operation, valve16 is opened, and the required quantity of fluid supplied to the compressing tanks, after which said Valve is closed. Water is then forced into said tanks through pipe 8, by the pump, the valve 11 being closed at that time. As the water rises in the tanks, it will compress the gas therein and will at the same time cool the coil or coils 18, the gas being forced out from said tanks through the pipes 12 and 13 into the drier, thence through the pipe 17 into said coil or'coils, and finally through the pipe 2l'into the storage tanks 20, which latter are sealed and removed from the cooling receptacle when fully charged. After the charging of the storage tanks has been completed, the outlet valve 11 may be opened and the compressing tanks emptied by way of the branch pipe 10, the water being thus returned to the reservoir.
I claim as my invention:
1. In an apparatus for compressing fluids, the combination of a compressing tank; means for forcing a compressing liquid thereinto; means for supplying the fluid to be compressed to said tank; a storage tank; a coil arranged in the compressing tank and adapted to be cooled by the compressing liquid; a pipe connection between said compressing tank and said coil for supplying the fluid from the formerto the latter; and a separate pipe connection between said coil and said storage tank.

liquid into the bottom of said tank; means for introducing the fluid to be compressed into the top of said tank; a coil arranged in the lower portion of said tank and adapted to be cooled by the ascending compressing liquid; an eXteriorly-located pipe connec tion between the top of said tank and said coil for supplying the fluid from the former to the latter; a storage tank; and a pipe connection between said coil and said storage tank.
3. In an apparatus for compressing fluids,
the combination of a compressing tank;
means for forcing a compressing liquid thereinto; means for supplying the liquid to be compressed to said tank; a drier commu nicating with said tank; and a device communicating with said drier and arranged within said tank for cooling the gas after it leaves the drier, said device being adapted to be cooled by the compressing liquid.
4. In an apparatus for compressing fluids, the combination of a compressing tank; means for forcing a compressing liquid thereinto; means for supplying the fluid to be compressed to said tank; a drier com municating with said tank; a cooling coil ar ranged in said tank and communicating with said drier; and a storage tank communicating with said coil.
