-. To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK RALEY, a citizen of' the 'United States, residing at Meridian, in the county of Lauderdale and State of Mississippi, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in `Car-Door Locks, ofwhichthefollowing is ay specification, reference being had to the accompanyf ing drawings;

The upper end of said locking bar 8 which projects beyond the side edge of the door 3 'is bent to form a hook 13, the free end of which'is slightly distorted, as shown at 14 and mounted in a cavity 15 in the side rail or har 16 which limits the movement of said door'3, is an addi` tional eye or keeper 17. This keeper 17 is wholly disposed in a horizontal planev parallel to the. planes ofthe upper and lower edges of said door 3 and the cavity 15 which opens on to the side face of said rail 16 as well as t-he front face thereof, has the one wall thereof beveled as shown at 18,'

From,` the foregoing description of the -construction of my device, the operation of the same will obviously be readily understood, but it will be seen that I have provided a simple, inexpensive and eiiicient de ,vice which may be readily operated and, which will securely retain the sliding door in effective position on a car.
While I havel particularly described the elements most well adapted to perform the functions set forth, it is obvious that various changes in form, proportion `and in the minor details-of construction may be resorted to Without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the novel features of the inposed 1in a plane-at an acute angle to the horizontal plane of the lower edge of said door, means to rotate said locking bar to' dispose the hook portions thereof in engagement with the eyes, and means to retain said locking bar in its effective position.
2. The combination wit-h a car havinor an opening in one side thereof and a sliding door therein, of a locking bar rotatably mounted on the outer face of said door and extending diagonally thereacross, the end portions of said locking bar being bent to form hooks, one of said hooks having the free end thereof slightly distorted, eyes secured to said car on opposite sides of the door therein, 'the lower eye being disposedl in a plane at an acute angle to the horizontal plane of the lower edge of said door, an arm formed on said locking bar to rotate the latter and cause the hook portions thereof to engage said eyes, and means adapted for engagementwith said arm to secure said locking bar in its effective position.
