LIFTNG DEVICE FOR DUMPING-WAGONS.
certain new and useful Improvements in Lifting Devices for Dumping-lVagons, vof which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a structural iinproveiiient in that class of lifting mechanism wherein telescopicallyarranged screwshafts are employed to tip the cart-body a proper angle to unload the ycontents of tlie cart, and is an impioiv'einent upon thatdisclosed iii Letters Patent of the United States, No. 616,035, issued vto me March 27, 1906.
The vobject in view is tov provide a pivot center construction for the operating shaft, in order to prevent wahhling of the latter during' operation'of the lifting mechanism.
The invention consists of' the novel colistructioii and combination of parts, as hereinafter described and set forth in the claim.
In the accompanying sheet of drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a dumping cart-having a lifting mechanism `equipped with my improvement. Fig. 2 is an enflarged view ofthe lifting mechanism, showing-"the parts embodying my improvement.
Fig. 3 is a central sectional View of the lift-` ingV ineclianisin' Fig. t-isl aplan section on line of'Fig. 2,`and,kFig.'/5 is aplan section of my. improved pivot center construction for, the-operating shaft, taken on line m.-:v.tof Fig. 2.
` y Like Areference characters indicate like parts;
shaft -o-fis steped in a swinging support -B-., -Which 1s pivotally connected to a plate a3-#secured upon the cart-porches able bushing-nut eengages the thread Specification Yof Letters Patent. I Application filed March 2,1911. Serial No. 611,850.
Referring to the drawings, the operating'` of `the operating shaft -c, and said nut flits within and is secured to the lower ofr'the tubular shaft g concentrically secured i'iponthe top end of the operating shaft '-0- and of a size to leave a surrounding projecting portion to hear in frictional contact upon the topA end of the wall of said bushing-nut.
In' connection with the abovecommon construction and arrangement of parts, my iinpro'veinent relates 4to the construction of plate al and- 4the swinging support -B-, to prevent transverse wahbling of the operating shaft -c--'. This plate wakis provided with opposed ears -ci2 through which passes a bolt that foi-insa pivot een? ter, as be, and these ears extend longitii dinally of' the fcartbody to form 4walls -/,z-. vThe lower part of the support mein-- ber -B- isl in the form of an eye to receive the pivot center -L- aiid inade to lit between-the ears (12`, and from the pivot center this eye part has au extension '-624 in sliding); contact upon the opposed faces of the plate-walls c3-3 in the manner shown in Figs. 2 and 5.- By this construction of the .membri-s '-ccland llgreater rigidity had to overcome lateral strain upon the shaft c-.
This improvement, as described,'is essentially designed for use in my construction and manufacture of 'lifting mechanisinfor adaptation to heavy dumping vehicles.
lVli'at l claiin isz- In combination with the operating shaft-l -r.'-, they plate a1-fhaving ears a2- and walls extending parallel thereto, as at .a-'*; a bolt passing through the ears of said plate, the shaft-.support --ll-- having` an eye formed at its lower part to receive said bolt and having an extension, as Zig-M,
in sliding;- contact upon the opposedfaces of theivalls otl said plate, as shown and for the purpose specified. .In testimony whereof l ailix iny signature in presence of' tivo iif'i-tiiessesi.
