To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I,REGI1\TALD HEINZEL- MAN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Belleville, county of St. Clair, and `State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Door-Securing Devices,`of which the following is a specification. A
This invention Vrelates to door securing devices and more particularly to locks for sliding doors and the like for carriages and wagons.
It has for its principal objects to produce a device of simple construction which can be readily applied to the doors of storm buggies and other vehicles, to produce a device by which the door can be locked in opened as well as closed position and also at any desired position between the full opened and closed positions, to obviate the rattling of thev door, andto at-tain certain advantages which will :hereinafter more fully appear. 1
The invention consists in the parts and in the arrangements and combinations of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings which form part of this specification and wherein like symbols refer to like parts wherever they occur,-Figure 1 is a longitudinal section through the body of a storm buggy equipped with a door-locking device according to my invention, a fragmentary portion -of the body being shown in side elevation;

In thedrawings, the body portion of an ordinary storm buggy 1 is shown. The buggy is provided at opposite sides with sliding doors 2. The respective doors are provided at their upper edge portions with hangers 3 which travel on a horizontal trackway 4L extending along the outer side of the body above the door opening. As shown, the lower side portion of the body below the seat is undercut or inclined inward, as at 5, and the lower portion of the door is turned inward correspondingly.
Hinged on the inner side of the door, as at 6, is la horizontally disposed flat metal bar 7. This bar is of a length somewhat longer than the width of the door so that its opposite end portions extend beyond the respective side edges of the door. The upper edge portion of the bar 7 is adapted to slide in an inverted metal channel member 8 secured to the outerside of the body and extending from the rear edge of the door opening to the rear of the seat portion or backof the body, as -the case may be. The bar is adapted to slidel throughout vthe en tire length of the channel member and in the closed position of the door therear end portion of the bar remains within the channel. In the closed Vposition of the door,`the front end portion of the bar 7 overlaps the front post of the door opening and is adapted to coperate with the inner face thereof or a metal plate or projection 12 provided for the purpose. Pivoted on the front end portionJ of the bar 7 is a leverarm 9 which works vin a cam Slot l0 in a bracket memberY 11r secured tothe inner side of the door. .By moving the lever-arm in the cam slot thebar 7 is rocked on its hinges 6. When thesbar is moved toward the door its upper edge portion ismade to bear against the outer flange of the channel member and also the inner face of the front door post or bearing piece 12, as the case may be, so that the lower portion of the door is drawn close against the outer side of the body. The lever-arm is moved until the parts are brought into such close relation that the door is held against endwise movement, and as the lower portion of the door is drawn tight against the side of the body, it is prevented from rattling. So, too, the door may be locked partially opened at any position between the full opened or closed positions.
Obviously, the device admits of considerable modification without departing from my invention. Therefore, I do not wish to be limited to the specific construction and arrangement shown.
What I claim is:
1. The combination with the body of a vehicle, of a door slidably mounted thereon, a rocking member extending across the door, a'device mounted on the body of the vehicle with which said rocking member slidably engages, and means for actuating saidrocking member to bind it with respect to said device on the vehicle body.
2. The combination with the body of a vehicle, of a door slidably mounted thereon,
a rocking member extending across the door, a device mounted on the body of the vehicle with Which said rocking member slidably engages, means for actuating said rocking member to bind it with respect to said device on the vehicle body, and means for holding said actuating means to lock the door. Y
3. The combination With the body of a vehicle having a horizontally disposed channeled slidevvay thereon, of a door slidably mounted on said body, a horizontally disposed flat metal bar hinged at one edge portion to the door, the opposite edge portion of the bar being adapted to slidably engage the channeled slideWay on the body, and means :tor rocking said bar on its hinges so that the free edge portion of the bar is made to impinge against the side of said slideWay and the door is drawn close to the side of the body.
4f. The combination with the body of a vehicle having a horizontally disposed channeled slideway extending along the side thereof, of a door slidably mounted on said body,a horizontally disposed flat bar hino'ed at one edge portion to the door, the free ec ge portion of said bar being adapted to slide in said channeled slideway, one end portion of said bar being continuously in engagement With said slideWay and the opposite end portion of the bar being adapted to cooperate With the adjacent portionA of the body when the door is in closed position,y and means for rocking said bar on its hinges so as to impinge it against the sides of the Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents,

5. The combination With the body of a vehicle having an elongated channeled slide- Way thereon, of a door slidably mounted on said body, a flat bar hinged at one edge to 'said members, one of said members being mounted on the body and another mounted on the door, one of said members having a transverse movement with respect tothe other and being adapted to clamp it in all positions of the door, and said actuating means being adapted to actuate and lock said transversely movable member in clamping relation to the other member.
