Description
F. M. ULM'BR. Lopx PAUGBT. APPLICATION FILED JAN. 12, 1911.

means ofthe engagement of i the edges of a quadrant vsector 16, -eut inraam: m. ULMER, or-PHILanELrHIA,1PEnNsvLvANI;
" Loox-Fureur.
Be it known vthat I,'FRANK M. ULMnn, o Philadelphia in the county of Philadelphla specification, reference being had to the aci companying drawings.- y
My invention relates to a lock vfaucet in which'the spigot caribe opened only after Aunlocking-the' same with a key and turning the handle in opposition to continuous spring pressure, w ich, upon releasing the line III, III, of Fig. I. Fig. IV, is a similar view along the line IV, I V,o'f'.Fig.;II.
The faucet 1, is providedwith a tapering' plug or spigot 2, traversed by -the port. 3. The lower en d of the plug Vis held in place by the washer 4, and around its upper edge is a ring of packing 5. The faucet is surlmounted by a collar 6, within' which 'is mounted the enlarged stem 7, suitably attached to the plug 2, as by a doublesc'rew 8. The upper end of this stem carries the han-` dle 9. Between the stem 7, and the collar 6, a. space 12, is provided within which a coiled spring 13, is seated, the ends being attached respectively to the collar and to the stem, so that the spring exerts continuous 'tension to draw the stem and 'plug around to the position in vwhich the faucetis closed. The revolution of the stem within its collar,
' and therefore .the rotation of the plug lof the faucet, is confined to a quadrant 'bi a-lug 15, -wit the upper edge of the'collar 6.
Within the stem 7, is suitably seated a bolt v .20,"constantly spring ressed in aA direction f f radial to the'stem by t e spring 2l. Within the Aplane of the rotation of the bolt, the

int-o' which the bolt slips, under tension of `the sp1-mg', when the two are in registry.

This registry occurs' when the plug 3, is turned so that-lts portis at right angles toV the faucet and the same closed.' The-bolt can only be withdrawn' soas to turn thepug within the upper part of the stem 7, is the cylindrical barrel 25, of'a lock capable of being rotated by Vinsertion and manipulation lof 'the key A.26. The lock isa-spring lock normally rotating the barrel to position of closure, except as turned by the key.` The lower .end of the barrel is provided -.with 'a pin28, received within a quadrant -slot 29, in the base of the stem.

' To open the faucet, the key, must be in` serted and the barrel of the 'lock rotated suf. ciently to withdraw the bolt', whereupon by turning the handle `9, to a position parallel to the axis of the faucet, the latter is opened. This turning movement isl opposed bythecoiled spring 13, so that the moment the handle is released, it returns to the position of Fig.` II, and unless pressure on the key 26, prevent-s it, the bolt is shot'into the bolt hole, andthe faucet is locked again in its closed position.
The -faucet thus described is useful to 'prevent. waste or improper dlrawi'ng of liquids, as well yas to confine the use of the faucet to those provided with a key.
