Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Josnrn S'DtmoAn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Printing Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to that class of printing devices which comprise a printing form andan information card carried by a frame, and adapted to be stored in "accordance with a card index system or stacked in a pile.
The object of the invention is to construct the frame so that the back of the card is visible and can be used for information purposes and at the same time to strengthen the frame.
In the accompanying drawings illustrating the invention Figure 1 is a front view of the frame. Fig. 2 is a back view of the frame showing the card. Fig. 3 shows the lower edge of the frame of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a front view of the frame showing the invention differently embodied. also a front view of the frame with the card and printing plate thereon. Fig. 6 is a sectional view on the line 6-6 of Fig. 5.
Referring to the drawings, 7 is a frame which .is provided at its ends with suitable spacing flanges 8 and at its top and bottom with heads 9 and .10. The printing plate 11 is detachably engaged with the head 10 and lips or flanges 12 on the frame and is held in place against endwise movement by the stop 13 andspring lock 14. Various means maybe employed for securing the late in the frame and. instead of aprintmg plate I may provide the frame with a holder having type set up therein in a man ner familiar in the art.
The frame is provided with an opening 15 and the metal cut therefromis preferably bent over on the front of the frame to rovide a wide strengthening bead 16 and a head 17, if the opening is comparatively narrow, as shown in Fig. 1, or to form two heads 18 if the opening is comparatively Wide, as shown in Fig. 1. I prefer to utilize all of the metal cut from the frame to form the opening 15 to obtain the benefit of the strength and stifl'ness'which Fi 5 is it affords but where the opening is wide some'of the metal may have to be removed and only the narrow beads employed as shown in Fig. 4. It has. been found that a frame having the opening 15 and strengthened at its edges by having the metal turned over thereon whichcis cut out to form the opening will be stronger and stiffer than.

What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A printing device frame made out of a single sheet of metal and having means to hold a printing device and an information card thereon, a portion of the frame behind the card bein cut on three sides and bent over upon t e frame to leave an opening disclosing the back of the card and to strengthen and stiffen the frame, substantially as described.
2. A printing device frame made out of a single sheet of metal and having means to hold a printing device and an information card thereon, said frame having an opening therein to disclose the back of the card, part-s of the frame cut out to form said opening being bent upward and downward respectively and against the front of the frame to form continuous strengthening and stiffening beads 'at the longitudinal edges of said opening, substantially as de- WM. 0.
