Be it known that we, \Vmman Low and Jason MILCH, both subjects of the lhnperor of Austria-Hungary, the former residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, and the latter residing at Bronx, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in lcrtorat ing Means for Cylinder-Presses, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to improvements in printing presses and particularly to the so-called cylinder-presses and has for its object to provide a device, whereby the sheets to be printed upon may be perforated prior to printin I \Vith this object in View, our invention consists in the construction, arrangement and combination of parts, which hereinafter will be fully specified.
In order to make our invention more clear, the same is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which similar reference letters denote corresponding parts, and in which- Figure 1 is an elevation of the printing cylinder, Fig. 2 an end view thereof and Figs. 3, 4, 5 and 6 are details of our improvement.
In the drawing, which forms a part of this specification, a denotes the printing cylinder, which is of ordinary construction and which is rotatively borne in the frame I) of the machine. Secured to the ends of the bar 0 which carries the hangers or guards (Z for the sheets, are blocks 6, which by means of set screws 7' may be made adjustable. These blocks extend transversely toward the circun'iference of the printing cylinder and are formed with longitudinal guide grooves g. Slidably guided in these grooves are vertically extending brackets ll in which vertically adjustable bearing boxes i are arranged. The latter may be secured in position bymeans o't' sets-crews j. The bearing boxes support a spindle A: which cxtends longiti'ldinally to the printing cylinder and parallel to the axis thereof. This spindle 7c is adapted to carry one or more perforators Z, which may consist of a wheel having sharp teeth and fixed between two side ClISKS m, which by means of sleeves are adjustably fixed on the spindle in. The pert'orators are arranged transversely to the cylindc and adapted to pcrfmate the sheets on the printing portion a of the cylinder while passingto the printing bod (not shown). The spindle carries at one end it gear a, which is adapted to mesh with the d riving gear 0 of the printing cylinder.
Owing to the adjustability ot' the brackets h and spindle 7c respectively transversely t0 the cylinder, it is possible in case no -pcr foration is desired, to cut out the perforal'ors preventing their acting, on the sheets. The vertical movabilily of they spindle Z: in the brackets It enables the adjustment of the perforators in case of displacement "of the sheets. Furthermore, the movability of the perforators along the spindle enables the adjustment of the perforators to the proper place, at which the perforations are to ap pear.
As means for guarding the perforating wheels against vibrations in order to obtain perforations on a straight line, the following devic. is provided: Secured below the bar (I, wi iich carries the brackets h and parallel thereto is a bar 7), which is provided with a longitudinal groove 1 Adjustably secured to said grooved bar 7) by means of a pressure screw 7' is a vertically extending arm s, which has a longitudinal recess t. This recessed arm is adapted to be adjusted in a position, in which the perforating wheel will engage into the recess of the arm and will thus during its operation be prevented from lateral vibrations. There may be several perforators and a correspondin,, number of such guide arms.
\Ve do not wish to restrict ourselves to the particular construction shown and described, since various modifications may be made without deviating from the principle of our invention, but
