The important. feat-ure oi .my invention Consists in forming' in one with, or attaching' to the top ol. the insulating body (in this particular typ-e .o'l socket, the upper button c.) a tubular extension or neck K, which forms a bushing' to pass through the neck ot' the cap C (Fig. l), and in the side walls of this tubular neck l form holes a, 7e. ot' a size sullicient to permit the passage of the covered parts oit' thc conductors W, Whose bared ends are to be conncctedto the binding posts (l, Gl. l prefer to form .these holes 1, 7c, diametrically opposite each other and considerably out of line with the usual grooves ,r/, g, in the sides of the insulating body leading' to the binding' posts G, so that the covered parts of the wires will have to go around several corners on the way from the binding' posts to their exit from thc tubular neck K, as will be readily understood from the drawings. Accordingly the wires are held with sufficient friction to relieve the terminal coi'mections of the wires 'from strain of the weightot' the suspended socket, lamp and shade, it used.
-lt will bc seen. that as the wires have to come out through the tubular bushing' K it is impossible to wire up this socket. without usinel the strain relief teature. rlhe strain is also brought upon the insulating' body and not upon the cap, as is the case with some strain reliefs.
To 'facilitate the wiring, l prefer to form the bottom ot thc opening' in the tubular neck with incliucd't'aces p, Fig'. to guide the ends ol the wires out through the holes when the wirc ends are tiret inserted through thc neck K.
