OIL-BURNER.
Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, HARRY A. SNYDER and JOHN E. SNYDER, citizens of the United States, residing at Watonga, in the county of Elaine and State of Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Oil-Burners, of which the following is a specification, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in crude oil burners for cook stoves, heating stoves, and the like and has for its primary object to simplify and improve the construction of such burners whereby the consumption of the fuel is reduced to a minimum, and the cost of operation correspondingly reduced.
Another object is to provide an oil burner which is adapted to be suspended within the fire pot of the stove, said burner being supported by means of suitable bolts carried by the stove lid, said lid having a central opening therein through which the oil is dropped from a suitable feed pipe communicating with the source of fuel supply.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of the novel'features of construction and the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a section through a heating stove showing our improved oil burner arranged therein; Fig. 2 is an enlarged section showing the means for suspending the burner in the fire pot of the stove, Fig. 8 is a detail perspective view of the burner.
Referring more particularly to Figs. 1, 2 and 3 of the drawings, 5 indicates a heating stove of any approved construction, and 6 the fire pot thereof. The stove is pro vided with the usual lid 7. In the ordinary use of such stoves, coal is used as a heating fuel and is fed into the fire box of the stove through the top thereof by removing the lid. In the adaptation of our invention to such stoves, we provide the lid 7 with a central opening 8 which is adapted to permit of a sufficient draft of air to the burner for the ignition of the oil, and also allows of the feed of the oil from the supply tank into the burner.
Our improved burner comprises the substantially rectan ular body 9 which is provided in each of Its sides with a plurality of flame openings 10 through which the flame is admitted in the operation of the burner. The interior of the body 9 provides an oil chamber into which the oil is adapted to be dropped from the feed pipe arranged above the opening in the stove. The body 9 has removably engaged therewith a verti cal tubular member 11 which extends upward to a point adjacent to the under side of the stove lid and is adapted to provide a guide for the oil and air in its passage through the opening in the lid of the stove to the fire box of the burner. The top of the member 11 is provided with a central opening 8 which registers with the opening 8 in the stove lid and has also formed therein a plurality of draft openings 8 through which a sufficient supply of oxygen is adapted to pass into the interior of the burner. Upon opposite sides of the opening 8 in the stove lid depending bolts or studs 12 are arranged. The extremities of these bolts are laterally extended, as shown at 13, and have their extremities vertically disposed, as at 13. The tubular guide member 11 of the burner is provided adjacent to its upper end at diametrically oppo site points with the inverted L-shaped slots 14- which are adapted to receive the angularly disposed ends of the supporting bolts 12. The burner is suspended from these bolts by rotating the tubular member 11 thereon so that the bolts will be positioned in the end of the horizontally extending portion of the slots, and the vertically disposed extremities of the bolt-s engaged with the inner surface of the member 11. When it is desired to remove the burner from the fire pot of the stove, the tubular guide member 11 is rotated so that the suspending bolts will be positioned in the vertical portion of the slots 14, when the tubular member may be moved upwardly and the bolts withdrawn from the slots therein. The slots 14 are disposed in opposite directions whereby the rot-ative movement of the member 11 will simultaneously position the suspending bolts in the horizontal portions of said slots or in the vertical portions thereof when the burner is to be removed. A feed pipe 15 has its extremity disposed immediately above the opening 8 in the stove lid and communicates with an oil supply tank 16 supported in any desired manner upon the wall adjacent to the stove. A valve 17 is arranged in the feed which the flow as desired.
In the operation of the above form of our burner, the oil is fed into the burner through the opening in the stove lid, and a sufficient quantity of oxygen is also admitted through said opening to insure the proper combustion within the body of the burner. A lighted match or taper is then applied to the openings 10 and the oil ignited. The flames are emitted from the oil chamber through the openings 10 in the burner body, and the interior of said stove is very quickly heated.
In the above manner any desired degree of heat may be obtained with but slight expenditure. All ashes and other dirt incident to the use of coal as a heating medium is thus eliminated. The heat may be very quickly obtained, and the labor required in the making of coal fires is entirely dispensed with.
From the foregoing it is believed that the operation and many advantages of our in vention will be readily understood without necessitating any further description thereof. The device is simple and by its use the consumption of oil is reduced to a minimum. A high degree of heat is readily obtainable Without the accompanying dirt and ashes and other inconveniences incident to the use of a coal stove. The device is also very durable, may be readily cleaned and is highly eflicient in its operation.
While we have shown and described what we believe to be the preferred embodiment of the invention, it will be understood that the same is susceptible of a great many minor modifications without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advan tages thereof.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed is:
1. The combination With a stove having a lid provided with a central opening, of a burner arranged Within the fire box of the pipe by means of of the oil may be controlled stove comprising a hollow rectangular body, a vertical tubular guide member centrally connected to sald body, means arranged 11] the stove lid to engage said guide member and support the burner within the stove, the upper end of said guide member being disposed beneath the stove lid in spaced relation thereto and provided with an opening in alinement with the opening in the stove lid, said tubular guide member being further provided with a plurality of openings adj acent its point of connection to the burner body.
2. The combination with a stove having a lid provided with a central opening, of a burner arranged within the fire box of said stove comprising a hollow rectangular body provided with openings in its side walls, a tubular guide member integrally formed upon the top wall of said burner, the upper end of said guide member being provided with longitudinal slots in its annular wall, said slots being horizontally extended at their upper ends in opposite directions. depending bolts arranged in the stove lid laterally disposed at their lower ends for engagement in the slots of said guide member, the extremities of said bolts being upwardly extended and adapted to be received in the horizontal portions of said slots, the upper end of said tubular guide member being disposed in spaced relation to the lid and provided with an opening .in alinement with the opening in the stove lid, the lower end of said tubular guide member being further provided with a plurality of openings adjacent its point of connection to the burner body.
