Be it known that I, JOSEPH L. FIRM, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Berwyn, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Printing- Presses, of which the following is a speciflcation. A

The object of this inventlon is the pro#v duction of a printing press of the character mentioned4 which will be so designed that the plates or forms carried by the form cylinders included in the construction may be readily and quickly removed therefrom or` the same may be readily accessible for clean,v ing Without necessitating disturbance of the inking cylinders. A further object is the provision of a printing press as mentioned by means of -which a plurality of colors may be offset or ap liedto the web at one operation; andA a fiirther' object is the provision of a press which will be of economical construction and efficient in operation.

Any suitable means may be employed for operating Water applying mechanism 50. The construction shownv comprises a reciproeating rod 52 carrying ,at one end a cant roller 53 operating in cam slot 33 and having its other end connected with one arm 0f a bell crank lever 54. In a printing press, the combination of a rotatable form cylinder; a plurality of sets of rotatably and revolubly mounted inking cylinders, each set of said cylinders being adapted to contact a portion of the periphery of said form cylinder not contacted by the others; ink fountains; ductor rollers adapted to transfer ink from said fountain to said inking 'cylinders; means whereby each of said ductor rollers will, upon revolution of said. inl ing,cylinders, Contact a set of inking cylinders not contacted by the others; an ofsetcylinder contacting said form cylinder', the periphery of said form 'cylinder being tothe periphery of said 0H- .setcylinder directly as the numberl of sets Iof inking cylinders coperating with said torm cylinders; and an impression cylinder adapted to intermittently contact said offset cylinder, substantiallyas described.

In a printing press the combination of a rotatable form cylinder a plurality of rotatably and revolubly mounted inki-ng cylinders 'arranged in cylindrical .conformation laterally of and parallel with said forni cylinder, said inking cylinders being adapted to successively Contact with one set of said forni cylinders with the latter is r0- tated and said inkingl cylinders are revolved; an offset cylinder contacting said form cylinder; and an impression cylinder adapted to contact said offset cylinder, substantially as described.
