l rotates within nn inner f :ylimlriml .vnll lG :mil in three diff-www directions, the oil is of the Casing, sm i. icmm the unter wall of very thorongnly nnxed with the air and the casing to :wrox/rie un nii' passing@ 17, mit Complvte Cmnlinstinn talfes plaag. Connected thvrswith at suitable :Tutsi-vals by By nnsciewmg the Set screw Y, the shaft eight suppming ties E8. Said hind' is l can be :trims-ted longitudinally in the hub 8, Clsed at its outer end except for tw@ circnand conneqnently the outer and of the aten# izing head can he adjusted relatively to the annular` port 24 through which the greater part of the air su ply is conducted.
An important 'eature of my invention is that tiro of the air conduits, namely, those through the hollowI head, are rotating, while the third air conduit is stationary. By reason of this fact, and the further 'tact that thel oil itself when delivered from the atoniizing head is also rotating, a very thorough mixture of air and oil, and atomization ot the oii produced.
I claim The combination ot a cyiindrical wall, an oil pipe leadingto the interior thereof, a rotatable hollow head within said wall pro vided with a helical rib fitting snugly within/said wall and adapted to rotate pasty the inletcpening for the oil, means for conducting air into the interior of said hollow head, said hollow head being at the end remote from t-liepart at which the air enters, closed except for small apertures directed ohliqucly outward, and means for rotating said head.
2. The combination of a cylindrical wall, an oil pipe leading to the interior thereof, a rotatable hollow head within said wall provided withl a helical rib fitting;` snugly within said casing and adapted to rotate past. the inlet opening for the oil, moans for conducting air into the interior of said hollow head, said hollow head being` formed, at the end remote from the part. at. which the air enters.y with openings direeted ohliquely outward, the corresponding end of' the wall having an inner surface tia ring outward at sul'istantially the same angle as said openings, and means for rotating said head.
3. The combination of a eylii'idricai wall, a head rotatable therein, provided with helical ribs fitting snugly within said wall, means Jfor conducting oil to the space between said head and wall` a casing surrounding the wall and spaced therefrom, and means. for conducting air to said space between said casing` and wall, the casing; being;`
formed with an annular flange directed ohliquely' inward, and the corresponding end of the wall beingr formed with a surface directed obliquely outward. Y
L. The combination of a cylindrical wall,
l""h""" d"h one cnc. or u icn is Lorme u it, an outt l l l l 'forni a fiuid passage,
wardly flaring inner surface, and an in'- wardly converging outer surface., a casing surrounding the wall und spaced therefrom, formed at the correspondingr end with an inwardly converging inner surface, means for conducting air between the wall and casing, a head rotatable in said wall, and provided with helical ribs fitting snugly within said wall, means. for Conducting oi to the space bctween'said head and wall, said head being formed at the end correspondingi to the aforesaid ends with openings directed ohliquely outward.
5. The coinhiinition ot a easing and an'V inner `wall spaced troni each other to forni an annular air passage., n rotatable hollow head within the wall and longitudinally ad- `iustahie therein provided with helical ribs tilting snugly therein, means for conducting oil to the space between said head and wall, means for conducting;- air to the interior of said head and to said annular passage, said wall and casing being' formed to providea discharge end for said passage directed obliquely inward, said hollow head being formed at the end corresponding with the said end of Suid 'passage with an annular series of out-lets directed obliquely outward, and means for z'sccurii'icj said head in said wall.
G, The coinlunatiou of a casing` a cylindricai inner wall spaced from the casing to ine-ans for supplying;r compressed fluid to said passage, said casing and .vull forming at the outer end tiuid passage an inwardly convergent annular port, a cylindrical hollow atoinizing htad within said wall and having helical ribs ou its outer surface, said atoinizingV head being formed :it one end with ine-,ins for admittingv compressed luid to the interior thereof and at the other end with a pluraiity of s'nall apertures, nie-ans for supplying oil to the space between the head land wall, and means for rotating,r said head.
In tes iinony whereof l have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
THOMAS MORRlN.
