This invention relates to sprinklers and in its more intense aspect to sprinklers particularly adapted for use in irrigating systerns, although it.may be used for other purposes if so desired.
One of the objects of the present invention is to provide a simple and practical sprinkler of the abov character adapted to elficiently and uniformly sprinkle or irrigate a predetermined surrounding area.
Another object is to provide a device of the above character having few parts which will be cheap to manufacture and install.
A. further object is to provide adurable sprinkler of the first abovementioned character' which will be positive in its'operatio'n and economic in use, the parts being so arranged and designed as to eliminate a wast of water when in operation.
Other obj ects will be in part obvious from the annexed drawings and in part indicated in connection therewith by the analysis of this invention.

- 2 In order that the present invention may be more clearly understood, it is to be noted that the above mentioned drawings disclose only one of a plurality of devices of a similar construction adapted to be regularly disposed about an area to be irrigated in such a manner that each device will uniformly irrigate a circlesubstantially tangential to five or six circles-irrigated by similar devices thereabout. While it may have been attempted to employ rotary sprinklers of various types heretofore in irrigating relatively large areas, there may have'arisen the area inclosed thereby was hardly touched,
or if the intermediate area was irrigated by oscillating the sprinkling nozzle during its rotation, the center was irrigated to a wasteful degree due in part to the loss .of water used for operating the device.
The present invention is designed to overcome the above objections, among others, by
uniformly irrigating a predetermined area completely about the centrally disposed de-.
vice and to positively utilize all of the watei ynching the device, first, for positively revolving a sprinkling nozzle and, second for irrigating-4 the land after performing its driving function.

In order to positively rotate t'he device and irrigate the complete. circle "the stud I shaft 34 upon which the gear 28, ismounted projectsto one side and is provided withan eccentric 35 upon which ismounted' a pawl I 36. The lower end of this pawl co-acts with ratchet teeth 37 formed :on the upper part I designed to uniformly and completely irriof the coupling 10, thus at. every'revolution ofthegear, the pawl will be raised and depressedcto progressively advance the sprinkler 1 a predetermined amount.
