Be it known that I, TnoxAs L.. LxB, Jr., a citizen of the United Stat residing at Westeld, in the county of Union :md State of New Je'rsey, have mvented eertain new and usefnllmprovements .in Electric-'Circuit-Gontrolling Apparatus, of-which the following is a specllication, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings, forming part thereof.
My invention relates broadly to contact devie for opening and closng electric circuits and is an improvement upon :m invention described in my application for United States Letters Patentfor electric circuit con apparatus, filed February 12, 1910, Serial To. 543,540.
The embodiment of the invention illustrated in the above mentioned appliantion inelnd a wire ganze contact member supported at its ends and stretched between two flexible supports having an elastic tendelicy to Separate. The gauze has its ends turned up and back like a book, as shown in Figs. 5, 6 and 10, and for each end there is provided an endv reinforcing or sclvage member 19 which is substantially equal in length to the width of the mounting 15 and which is coiled up longitudi nally and adapted to fit on the end of th( gauze, as shown in Fig. 10, and the ends` of which project beyond the gauze at each side thereof so that they will catch under the lugs 18 of the mount-ing. i
To insert a gauze Contact in the mounting, the ends of the mounting are sprung the end pieces 19 will pas: outside the ears 18 as the gauze is liiid in the recesses of the mounting, and after the gauze, as shown in Fig. 10, and the ends of are allowed to spring back, and the ear,K 18 spring over the end pieces, as shown n Fig. t), and hold the gauze Contact in thf mounting, till the mounting is again sprung together and the gauze released, when, if desired, the gauze may be readily lifted out and a new one inserted, thus affording extremely simple means for readilyattaching and detaching the contact member.
It is obvious that various modifications may be made in the construction shown and above particularly described within the principle and scope of my invention.
I claim:
1. In an electric circuit controlling apparatus, a contact device comprising a contact member having a rough, broken or interrupted surface, aV second contact device having a relatively soft or quickly wearing coaeting surface, and a supporting member for the first contact member consisting of tivo supporting arms having an elastic tendency to separate, the first contact member and the two supporting arms having hooking portions adapted to be hooked together and held in hooked engagement by the separating tendency of the supporting arms.
2. l'n an electric circuit controlling appaiatus,acontact device comprising a tlexible Contact member having a rough, broken or interrupted surface, a second Contact device having a relatively soft or quickly wearing coacting surface, and a supporting member for the first contact member consisting of two supporting arms having an elastic tendency to separate, the first contact member and the two supporting arms having hooking portions adapted (o he hooked together and held in hooked condition by the separating tendency of the supporting arms.
3. In an electric circuit controlling apparatus, a contact device comprising a contact member having a rough, broken or interrupted surface, a second contact device having a relatively soft or quickly wearing coacting surface, and a mounting for the first contact member consisting of two sup porting members having an elastic tendency to separate and having recessed supporting ends, the rst contact member having hooking portions arran ed to detachably hook in such recessed ens.

5. In an electric circuit controlling apparatus, a contact device comprising a wire gauze Contact member adapted to be supported at'two points like a bridge, a reinforcing member for each supportin point of the contact member, anda mounting for the contact member including two supporting arms having an elastic tendenc to separate, the supporting arms each aving a hooking portion adapted to be detachabli hooked to a reinforcing member of the contact member and to be held in hooked conneet-ion therewith by the elastic separating tendency of the supporting arms.v
6. In an electric circuit controlling appai'atus, a Contact 'device comprising a contact member having laterally projecting end portions, and a mounting therefor consistingr of two supporting members having retresses in their supporting ends and arranged to supportthe contact member in such recesses with the laterally projecting end portions extending behind the portion of the supporting members at the'side of the recesses.
7. ln an electriercircuit controlling apparatus, a Contact device comprising a contact member having laterally projecting end portions, and a mounting therefor consisting of two supporting members having an elastic tendency to separate and having recesses in their supporting ends and arranged to support the contact member in Fili-h recesses with the laterally projecting end portions extending behind the portion of the supporting members at the side of the recesses, the of'mtnet member being held under tension by the elastic tendency of the supporting members to separate.
