Be it known that L'MARTIN Hansen, a citizenot the United States, and resident of Richmond Hill, Long Island, county of Queens, and. State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Safety-Razors, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to safety razors of the type which have a blade holding frame and a blade releasably held on said frame.
The object of the invention is to provide a blade holding means for the safety razor which will hold the blade on the blade holding frame at any one of a plurality of positions so that the angle of the cutting edge to the guard teeth of the blade holding plate may be varied at the will of the user. To this end I have provided a safety razor having a blade holding frame with means for varying the position or" the angle of the blade thereon, and more particularly a safety razor having a blade holding frame and provided at its lower corners with blade holding corner guards and provided at the upper part of the frame with a blade holding device having a pair of spaced fingers and adapted to engage the upper part of the blade with the inner or lower finger and hold the blade fiat against the blade holding frameor which the rear edge of the blade between said fingers and hold the blade at an other position with its rear edge spaced from the upper part of the blade holding frame.

Referring more particularly to Figs. 1 to 3, the safety razor is shown provided with a tubular handle. 10 ,on which is supported at a downwardly inclined "angle the blade holding frame ll provided at its lower corners with corner holding guards 12 adapted to receive corners of the blade 13.
Between the corner holding guards 12 the blade holding frame is provided with a plurality of suitably shaped guard teeth 14. The upper part of the handle 10 is closed witha top having an elongated slot 15 errtending parallel to the back of the razor' blade. Through this slot'lo is slidably passed the flat shank 16 of the holding device 17, the lower end of said shank being curved backwardly so that it may be eat-eaten in. so, rate,

The intermediate part of the shank 16 is provided with a screw threaded hole in which is screwed a stem of a set-screw 18 passing through a longitudinal slot 19 at the rear of the tubular handle and by the aid of this set screw the lower end of theshank may be brought into engagement with the inner face of the handle, as stated. Between this set-screw and the closed upper end of the handle is interposed a coil spring 20 tending to force the holding device 17 downwardly as is apparent. The upper end of the holding device 17 is bent forwardly over the rear of the blade and is provided with a plurality of divergent fingers 21 and 22. The inner finger 21 is adapted to press upon the outer face of the rear edge of the blade and press the same firinlv against the upper part of the blade holding frame. This will place the cutting edge of the razor in the position relative to the guard teeth shown in Fig. 1. If it-is desired to bring the cutting edge of the blade more nearly parallel to the guard teeth, the set-screw 18 and with it the. holding device 17 is pressed upwardly until the finger 2} entirely'clears the rear edge of the blade when the rear edge of the blade is brought slightly forward and placed between the fingers Y21 and 22 as shown in Fig. 3, in which position the blade and lingers are yieldably held. by the spring 20, If it is de-' sired to firmly maintain the blade in these positions the lower part of the shank 16 is brought against the inner face of the handle by means of the set-screw 18 in Figs. 2, 3 and 4, the set-screw has not been screwed up for clamping the parts in place, hence the lower end of the shank is not shown in contact with the handle-wall. The guard reanportion of the blade as described, the edge is depressed toward or raised from the forward portion of the guard-teeth, as shown in FigsQ and 3.
