Be it known'that I, CLEMENT ARTHUR I/VILD, a subject of the Kingdom of Great Britain, and resident of 184 Coppice street, Oldham, in the county of Lancaster, England, engineer, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Knife-Cleanore, (for which I have applied for Letters Patentin England, No. 9,087, dated April 12, 1911,) and of which the following is a specification.

This invention has for its object improvements in knife cleaners and in particular to those in which the cleaning surfaces consist of two disks covered with felt or other yielding material and will be readily understood by reference to the accompanying drawings upon which Figure 1 is a front view of a knife cleaner made in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a side view of same. Fig. 3 is a section on line 1-2 but not showing the grip or stand. Fig. 4 is a section on line 3-4.

The casing A which is made of thin metal and in such a manner that it allows the polishing powder being fed into the machine at the center through a suitably formed hopper B which is secured to or formed in one with the disk 0 and is of sufficient diameter to inclose three slots 0 0 and c in the disk C through which the emery or polishing powder is directed by a brush D or other equivalent which is secured on the shaft or spindle E and revolves with it causing the powder to pass through on to the felt and lie in indentations 0 made for that purpose in the disks and felt, and on to the fiat portion of the same. It will be seen that the slots 0 0 and 0 do not go through the felt and disk F but only through the disk 0.

I provide a spiral spring M which rests against a boss formed on the disk G and the necessary pressure for keeping the disks together is regulated by the nuts m and washer m which screw on the spindle E.

The blade of a knife is inserted in the mouthpiece H which is provided with a brush 71. on each of its sides for removingthe powder from the blade when withdrawn, the mouthpiece is also provided with a guide or rest 71."; the blade passes between the disks C and F and in the case of a carving knife is allowed to go through a slot J at the other side of the casing A. After the powder is fed into the hopper B a cap K is aflixed which will prevent it from flying out when the cleaner is being used. To prevent the powder clogging or accumulating on the edges of the disks and pads I provide scrapers N of felt or other suitable material secured at convenient parts inside the casing A which will sweep the edges every revolution of the disks.

Instead of securing the cleaner to a table or other base by means of a clamp P I may form an extension or foot plate on the bottom portion of the casing A and having screw holes by which it can be attached directly to a table or a suitable base.

What I claim is In knife cleaners of the kind described the one disk having slots right through the same together with indentations on both disks and pads, means for feeding the emery or polishing powder into the center of the said disks and pads, means for guiding the emery or polishing powder on to the flat portion of the said disks and pads and preventing the accumulation of the same in the feeding hopper substantially as herein described.
