SAFETY-RAZOR.
Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed October 11, 1910.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY Hnss, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, residing at Frankfort, in the Province of Hesse-Nassau and Empire of Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in `Safety-RaZors, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in safety razors and the object is to provide a device of 'the characterdescribed compi ing few and simple parts easy and quick to assemble and effective in operation.
' lV ith these objects in view this invention comprises a guard, a handle made in one piece, the guard provided with keyhole slots in combination with a plate having studs thereon, a razor blade having orifices to receive and fit the studs and a spring interposed between the plate and guard and also provided with orifices to receive the studs, whereby the several parts are assembled, properly gaged and detachably held together. l
My invention further consists in certain novel features of construction and c0mbinations. of parts which will be hereinafter described and pointed out in the claim.

The numeral 1 represents the guard having the usual curved guard teeth 2, 2, at each edge. The center of the outer face of the guard is, preferably, depressed as at 3, leaving the raised ridges et, 4, at each edge therel of with the outer surfaces of the curved 10, 10, and the guard teeth 2,2, constituting a continuation. The handle 5 and the guard are made in one piece of metal. 4Keyhole slots 6, 6, are formed inthe guard on opposite sides of the point where the handle joins it.
A bridge plate 7 is fiat on one surface 8 and transversely convexed on the other surface 9, it being ground down to sharp edges width of the plate is, preferably, just sufiicient to bridgevover the depressed portion 3 ofthe guard and to approXimately reach the bases of the curved guard teeth. .This bridge plate` is provided with two integral studs 12, 12, correspondmg in position with noo keyhole slots e, 6.
These studs have enlarged rounded heads 18, 13, constricted necks 14, 11, approximately the samev diameter as the width of the smaller portions of the keyhole slots and at the base of each stud a cylindrical shoulder 20, is formed adjacent to the plate.
The numeral 15, indicates the razor blade. This has the two orifices 1G, 1G, therein spaced apart and of a size to receive and fit the cylindrical shoulders 2O of the studs, so that the blade is gaged with respect to the other portions of the safety razor and held lirmly against endwise or lateral movement by the shoulders of the studs. Superimposed upon the plate is a transversely curved spring 18, which also has orifices 19, 19, therein spaced apart and of a size to lit the shoulders 20, 20, of the studs, the function of this spring being to hold the bridge plate yieldingly outward from the guard so that the studs hold the parts rigidly in place. So to assemble the parts, when the blade and spring shall have been threaded upon the studs, the studs are placed opposite the enlarged ends of the keyhole by pressing the bridge plate and guard slightly together, and moving the necks of the studs into the hole slots, the parts are quickly assembled and locked together. In this way a` simple device is provided for utilizing standard' makes of ,safety razor blades and by reason ofthe construction set forth the parts are easily and quickly separated and detached to enable the user to remove and substitute a new blade or clean theparts without the necessity of removing the handle from the guard.
The curvature of the teeth and outer surface 8 of the bridge plate are in the same or approximately in the same arc of a circle,`
thus presenting a smooth and practically unbroken surface between the parts of which the two edges of` the blade protrude, thus precluding the possibility of cutting, scraping, or irritating the skin in the process of shaving.
It is evident that more or less slight changes'might be resorted to in the form and arrangement of the several parts described Without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention and hence, I do not .Wish to limit myself to the exact construction herein set forth but,
