The parts described in the foregoingr muyY be of the usual or any suitable construct ion and the back casting 7 may have been formerly employed for supporting n fire brick bridge wall.
`My improved bridge wall comprises end or outer sections l5 :ind n series of intermediate sections 16. These sections 15 and 16 are in the forni of substantially seginental plates and the end or head sections l5 have formed on their inner sides segmental curved flanges 17 in which :ire formed npper and lower notches 1S. On the enter side of the sections l5 are formed vertically dis- `posed laterally projecting ribs 1t) to enter the eorrngation of the boiler for an obvious purpose, as clearly shown in Fig. 2. ln

These spaces together with the spaces formed by the recesses 20 provide for wfreecircnlntion of air through the holes l in the bottom of the back casting and beneath the sections or platesof the bridge wall. On the upper edges of the recess 31 :ulineent to the inner edges of the plates are formed stop lugs 33 which correspond to and are for the same purpose as the lugs 2,5 hereinbefore referred t.
Arranged in the notches Q23 and 31 and adapted to he engaged with the stop lugs 25 and 33 of the bridge wall is a section clamp'- ing bar 34 which extends the entire length of the bridge wall orthrough all of the scetions thereof shown. The bar 34 has ar ranged thereon adjacent to its ends laterally projecting clamping bolts 35 which are adapted lo be inserted through the bolt holes 14 in the vertical portion oi' the back ensting. -On the outer ends of the bolts nre arranged clamping nuts Piilbv means ot which the bnr 34 is drawn against the stop lugs 25 and 33 of the bridge walls or sections und the latter thiis drawn beek and clamped into operative engag-ementJ with the vertnnl wall of the beck casting),r as clearly shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings.
