To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, CHARLES HOOKER and BENJAMIN lVENDi-ioL'r, citizens of the United States, residing at Huntingburg, 1n
the county of Dubois and State of Indiana,
have invented a new and useful Automatic Coal-Feed for Moving Goal-Tenders; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the in vention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. This invention relates to a new and useful coal tender adapted for use in connection with a locomotive.
It is the primary object of the invent on to provide the tender with a rotatable disk and a mechanism having connections with one of the revoluble axles of the wheels of the tender for rotating the disk, as the tender is moving, whereby the coal may be fed to a location on the tender where it may be reached easily and readily by the fireman.
Itis a further object of the invention to provide a mechanism of this design in which desirable, novel, simple, eflicient and practical features of construction are involved.
The above features are hereinafter set forth, shown and claimed.

Referring to the drawings, 1 designates the tender, which is constructed in the usual manner, with the exception that the same is provided with a rectangular frame 2, from the upper portion of which a sheetmetal lining 3 extends, the same being open, "as at 4, through which the coal is fed. This sheet metal lining extends downwardly and inwardly of the frame 2 and terminates in an annular outline, as shown in Fig. 1. Below the inner lower edge of this annular outline of this lining is an annular disk 5, which is keyed to the shaft 6 by the set bolt 7. This disk forms the bottom of the lining 3 and on which the coal is deposited. Caster rollers 8 mounted in bearing'boxes 9 secured on the upper face of the division board lO, constitute means on which thei disk 5 turns, thereby permitting the same to revolve-with the least friction possible. The upper reduced end of the shaft 6 is journal'ed in a bearing 11 of the plate arm 12, which is secured at its outer end, as at 13, to one of the sides of one of the tanks 14: (which are provided with the usual covers or closures l6, hinged at 15). These tanks are designed tocarrywater or the like. Mounted in guides lfi of the adjacent faces of the tanks is a gate 17, which prevents the coal, as it is fed through the passage 4, from coming too far to the front of the tender. Threaded to areduced portion at the up-' per end of the shaft 6 is a nut 18, between which and the shoulder 19 a washer 20 is arranged. This threaded reduced portion is denoted by the numeral 21, while the re duced portion (which is mounted in the bearing-11 is designated by the numeral 22. The s aft 6 passes through the base portion 23 of the tender, and upon its lower end a bevel gear 24 is keyed at 25, the purpose of which gear will hereinafter appear.
The tender is provided with the usual trucks 26 and the usual wheels 27 and 28. Mounted in suitable bearings 29 of the base portion 23 of the tender is a shaft 30, on one'end of which a bevel gear 31 is fixed, 'which is designed to mesh with the bevel gear 24C. 011 the other end of the shaft 30, a worm wheel 32 is loosely arranged, lengthwise movement of which upon the shaft 30 is prevented by the collar This worm wheel 32 meshes with the worm 3% upon the revoluble axle 35 of two of the wheels 28. One face of the worm wheel 32 is provided with an annular flange 36. Keyed to rotate with the shaft 30 is a clutch carrying member 37, in a portion of which a partially rotatable pin 38 is mounted. Upon one end of this pin, an angular arm 39 is fixed, as at 40, while upon the other end of the pin, a substantially rectangular portion 41 is integral therewith, which operates the ends
