To all whomit may concern Be it known that I, SEBASTIAN PERRoNE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Hair-Cutter, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention relates to hair cutters, for use by barbers and others in trimming the hair, and has reference more particularly to a device of this class which comprises a holder having a blade socket, a blade arranged in the socket and having the edge projecting beyond the same, and a member separably associated with the holder and extending over the socket and the blade, and beyond the latter, and provided with comb teeth.

The object of the invention is to provide a simple and efiicient hair cutter by means of which each individual can cut his own hair quickly and easily, without the assistance of a barber or any other person, which permits the hair to be cut uniformly and as short as desired, which requires no special skill on the part of the user, and which can be inexpensively manufactured.

The invention consists in the construction and combination of parts to be more fully described hereinafter and particularly set forth in the claims.

Reference isto be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views, and in which Figure 1 is a plan view of an embodiment of my invention; Fig. 2 is an edge view of the device showing a part in cross section;

Before proceeding to a more detailed explanation of my invention itshould be clearly understood that while the hair cutter is of assistance to barbers' in the practice of their profession, it is intended particularly for use by individuals to enable them to cut their own hair, and thus to obviate the necessity of the services of a barber or other skilled hair cutter. As will be readily understood, when the hair is cut by means of a scissors and comb in the usual manner it is very diiiicult to prevent the formation of ridges or inequalities, and

I complete uniformity of the surface is acqulred with difficulty. With my invention however, the hair is shaved or planed so that the ends of the hair are trimmed evenly and all unsightly irregularities are thus avoided. The device consists of but three parts, can be readily assembled and taken apart, and can therefore be kept in a clean and sanitary condition with the greatest of ease;

Certain of the details of construction shown for example herewith, form no part of the invention, and can be varied in accordance with individual preference and special conditions, without deviating from the essence of the invention as defined in the appended claims.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, I have shown for example, an embodiment of my hair cutter which hasja holder 10 fashioned from sheet metal or any other suitable material, and provided near its lower edge with an inclined, offset 11 formed by stamping in a die or any other convenient manner. The offset constitutes a socket for the cutting blade 12. This may approximate the ordinary safety razor blade,- or may have any other preferred or common form. The socket has sides 13 which prevent the lateral displacement of the blade, which normally lies in a plane substantially that of the body of the holder 10.

At the lateral edges, the holder has inturned, ofi'set flanges 14 under which is slidably received a plate 15 which extends over the socket and the blade, and serves .to hold the latter in position. At the lower edge, the plate pro ects beyond the blade and is provided with a plurality of teeth 16 so that it constitutes a comb. The end teeth 17 of the comb have projections 18 constituting stops to engage at the ends of the blade, and serving to hold the same in position when the parts are assembled.

To separate the parts it is merely necessary to slide the member 15' from engagement with the holder. The blade can thus be readily lifted from the socket; the three parts constituting the socket can thus easily be cleansed and kept in a sanitary condition. .When the hair cutter is in use it is held inone hand or the other and the comb teeth are passed through the hair as if it were being combed. blade are thus severed, and the hair can be cut as short as desired by suitably repeating the operation.

Having thus described my invention, I

5 claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

1. A hair cutter consisting of three parts only, one of said parts being the holder and comprising a thin, flatfiplate having a flat,

angularly disposed 0 set constituting a bladesocket and having the edge lying substantially in the plane of the plate, said plate being margin, to form in-t-urned flanges, the sec- 1 0nd of said parts being a blade removably located in said socket and extending over the edge thereof, and the third of said parts being. a thin, flat plate slidably and removably held under said flanges, against'said holder and over said socket, said last-mentioned plate having a lurality of comb teeth, the end ones of said teeth being provided with projections adapted to engage at the ends of said blade and constituting stops therefor.

2. A hair cutter substantially as described,

forwardly bent at the lateral comprising a body portion consisting of a main plate Whose lateral ed es are returned to form keeper flanges, and aving an oifset constituting a blade socket, said flanges ter-. minating at said socket, said plate having at the lateral edges of said socket upturned portions, said socket with its upturned ends serving to give rigidity to such portions of the body, and the lateral flanges of said body aiding in giving rigidity to such part of the body, a blade adapted to fit in said socket with its outer side or face substantially in a plane with that of the main plate, and a retaining plate removably held by said keeper flanges of said main plate and overlying the blade and having at its forward edge teeth projecting beyond the out ting edge of said blade.
