To all whom it may concern.

Be it known that I, HAROLD E. DAVIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at- Smock, in the county of Fayette and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Nail-Extractors, of which. the following is a specification.

This invention relates to combination tools and the object of the invention is the pro vision of a device of this character which may be cheaply constructed, which will be efficient and handy and wherein a tack puller and a tack hammer are the principal features. 1

A further object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character wherein the tack hammer or head of the hammer forms a resting anvil while the claw is being used to extract tacks.

Further objects of the invention will appear as the following specific description is read in connection with the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this application, and in which Figure 1 is an elevation of the device shown in the position used for driving tacks. Fig. 2 is a similar View showing the device used as a tack extractor.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 and 2 represent separate handle members, each of which is provided with lugs 3 connected together by a pivot bolt 4. One end of these members is formed into a gripping handle 5, while the opposite end gradually diverges from the pivot lugs and is provided, at its ends, with inwardly turned ears 6 in which are pivotally connected the inner ends 7 of the hammer and claw members 8 and 9 which are pivoted together, as shown at 10. The forward end of the hammer member, beyond the pivot point 10, is constructed in the form of a goose neck with a straight head 11, while the claw member is formed upon the arc of a circle opposite to the goose neck and in its forward end is provided with a notch 12. The handle members are kept separated by a leaf spring 13 and the lower member 1 is provided, adjacent its pivotal connection with the inner end 7 of the claw member, with a can opening blade 14.

When the device is used for driving nails, the claw member is drawn up into the goose neck by compressing the handles in the ordinary manner. for extracting tacks the claw is engaged with the tack in the usual manner when the handles are open, the handles are then pressed together which forces the head 11 into engagement with the floor or other part holding the tack and raises the claw there from, the head acting as an anvil support during this operation.

Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new is:

A nail extractor, comprising a pair of pivoted handle members, means for normally holding the handle ends of said members apart, a curved lever member, a claw member pivoted thereto and having its claw end adapted to lie within the curve of the lever member, and a pivotal connection between the ends of the lever and claw member and the ends of the handle members.
