To all .whom it may concern:
'Be it known that I, ANDREW EPPLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lynn, in the county of Essex` and' Stateof Massachusetts, V-have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Thread- Waxing Devices-g and-I do -hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exa/ct description of the invention, such as lable others skilled in the art to whi it appertains to make and 'use thesame.
,. The present invention relates .t thread waxing devices. for use fon waXth/iead-Sewing machines- One of the objects of the vpre'sentirwen-v tion is lto produce a thread-Waxing device readily Vhad vt0 the' device *gr having improved means forI heating the scribed 'and .claimed the advantages of which will be obvious to /those skilled inthe art from the following ,description/ The several 'features/ of the pre/sent ,ins

piper is completely .surrounded .by 'the warg' and eXtends/'parallel/and vin closeproX1m1ty\ to the thread 6 so that it act/sin/an efficientv manner to melt the wax in/' proximity yto thethread. This arrangement of the steam pipe also avofds overheating and burning of the "'/WaX/since themelted Wax in proximity to lthe/tube tends to flow outwardly toward the walls of the potwhere itis cooled, the radiation of heat from the walls lofthe wax potedectually preventing't-he wax from becoming overheated at all times. Preferably,- and as illustrated in the drawing, the steam ,pipe,f9 passes through atube 12, the lower end 'ofwhic'l'is secured in the bottom of the .waxpot' and the upperzend of which eX- tends above thedevel ofthe wax and' is receivedin a recess in the' 'lowerjsurfaee of the 'support 3. Thus tube 12 prevents th Waxf-rom coning directly into 'contact ysteam' pipe and avoids calring ofv the wax on f sthepipe. The tube LQ/lcosely surrounds'the 1th the 1 {p1pe' 9 so as-'to provide -aniair space.' which aids in preventing overheating of the Wax. Also the steam pipe 9 is preferably made of copper' While the tube 12 is made of iron, for the reason that the conductivity of iron is less than that of copper and the iron serves to still further diminish the dangerof eX- cess heating of the Wax particularly at points Where the tube 12 may accidentally come in contact with the pipe.
. While the Waxing device is in use the Wax in the pot is kept melted by the steam pipe 9. To enable the Wax to be quickly melted When heat is first applied to the pot, an auxiliary heating device may be employed. In the construction illustrated in the drawing an auxiliary heating, device in the form of a. steam pipe 13 is provided arranged parallel to the pipe 9 and connected in the same manner to the supply and return pipes 10 and 11. This pipe passes through a tube 14 similar in all respects to the tube 12. Near its loWer `end and outside of the Wax pot, the pipe 13 is provided With a valvel by means of Which communication Ymay bel shut off betWeen'tlie pipe 13V andftlieffpile 11. -When the valve'l'f/'is'closed Water ofy condensation collects in the pipe 18 and thus ythe operation of the pipe as a heating de"- vice is discontinued The loWegf/end of the guide frameYS is provided With lateral projectio-ns 16 Which fit quite closely. against the tubes 12 and 14 so that the heat is`trans, mitted directly from these tubes to the' guide frame 8 and thread guide 7.
The preferred embodiment offtlef several features of the present invention having been thus described, What isfclai1ned is 1. A thread Waxing device,y having, in combination, a. support, f" a thread guide mounted thereon, a Wazepot mounted so as to be movable into or out of a position in which the thread is immersed in the Wax, and a heating pipe passing through the Waxpot in a straight line and in the direction of the movement of the pot.

2. A thread Waxing device, having, in combination, a support, a thread guide mounted thereon, a Wax-pot, -a heat-ing. pipe passing vertically in a straight line through the Wax-pot and means for supporting the Wax-pot so as to allow it to be moved`longitudinally of the heating pipe into and outof a position in which the thread is im? mersed in the Wax.
8. A thread Waxing device, having, in combination, a Wax-pot, a heating pipe passing through the Wax-pot and emerging therefrom below the level of' the Wax, a thread guide to guide the thread through the Wax in the Wax-pot, and a tube loosely' surrounding the heating pipe and attached to the pot at the point Where the heating pipe emerges therefrom.'
4. A thread Waxing device, having, in combination, a support, a thread guide mounted thereon, a Wax-pot, a heating pipe passing vertically in a straight line through AtheWaX-pot, a tube loosely Ysurrounding the heating pipe and attached at its loWer end to the bottom of the pot, the upper end of said tube extending above the level of the Wax, and means for supporting the Wavpot so as to permit it to be moved longitudinally ofl theV heating pipe into or out of a position/fin Which the thread is immersed in the'WaX.
