To all whomit may concern:
Be it known that I, Tnoams J. PrLns, a citizen of the United States, residing at Columbia, in the county of Richland and State of South Carolina, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Recording Systems for Railway-Signals; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full. clear, and enact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertainsto make and use the same. i v
The present invention relates to a system of railway signaling and apparatus there. for whereby the train despatcher is, in his ofiice, apprised of the execution of such orde'rs as he may communicate to the several train operators within his jurisdiction, as to the display or non-display of the danger signal. The invention further proposes an ar rangement whereby the position of the sema-' phore signals is told by an audible signal at the despatchers station, and a permanent record made thereof; and wherein such recording and audible signaling is automatically effected through the actuating of the semaphore operating means.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the arrangement and combination of parts hereinafter claimec, and while the invention is not restricted to the exact details shown and described, still for the purpose of disclosure reference is had to the accompanying drawings, in which like reference characters designate the same parts in the several views, and in which:
Figure 1 is a diagrammatic illustration of the system. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view partly in elevation, of the recorder and audible signaling apparatus. Fig. 3 is a top plan view of Fig. 2 with the audible signaling device removed and the casing in section. Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional view taken on the line 44 of Fig. 3 and looking in the direction of the arrow. Fig. 5 is a detail view in side elevation of the perforating device, and Fig.6 is a longitudinal. sectional view, partly in elevation, of the circuit closure and associated parts.
The plan of the system consists in a train despatchers station A having electrical connection by the ground and battery wires'B and C respectively, with one or more train operators stations D and at which latter mentioned points are'the usual semaphore signals consisting of poles E and arms F as shown in l. i
Located at the train des 'iat cliei-"s station A are a recorder and audible signaling device for indicating to the dcspatcher the exact position at which the semaphore has been. set and to make a pernmnent record thereof for future reference.
